Hit-And-Run Car Accident Injures Pedestrian

A hit-and-run car accident in Los Angeles left an 18-year-old man with serious injuries the morning of October 30, 2010. The pedestrian was walking near the intersection of Vanowen Street and Noble Avenue when he was struck by a white, four-door sedan, possibly a Nissan Maxima or an Infiniti. The car left the scene of the pedestrian accident. The teenager was transported to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. The hit-and-run driver is still at large.

My heart goes out to this injured victim and his family for what they are going through at this time. I wish him the very best for a swift and full recovery. He will be in my prayers.

Hit-and-Run Car Accident Statistics

According to the California Highway Patrol’s traffic accident statistics, there were 17,158 hit-and-run car accidents that resulted in fatalities or injuries in California in 2008. A majority of these car accidents involved serious injuries. There were a total of 247 deaths in 2008 involving hit-and-run car accidents statewide.

Leaving the Scene of a Car Accident

California Vehicle Code Section 20001 (a) states: “The driver of a vehicle involved in an accident resulting in injury to a person, other than himself or herself, or in the death of a person shall immediately stop the vehicle at the scene of the accident.” Leaving the scene of a car accident is not just illegal, it is also immoral and inhumane. It is a driver’s responsibility to stop, remain at the scene of the accident and obtain medical assistance for the injured victim.

In this case, the driver did none of the above, but simply sped away from the scene leaving the victim lying on the roadway. It is a despicable act, which shows callous disregard for a human life.
