Pedestrian Fatally Injured in San Francisco Car Accident

A pedestrian was fatally injured in a San Francisco car accident after officials say he was struck by a suspected drunk driver. Bay City News reports that the fatal pedestrian accident occurred early morning on March 19, 2010 at Fourth and King streets. The 36-year-old man was standing on a San Francisco Municipal Railway platform at when a white pickup truck driven by Dwain Davis struck him. Davis had apparently lost control of the pickup and struck a big-rig and then collided with the pedestrian. The truck driver sustained minor injuries while Davis was uninjured. He is facing felony drunk driving and vehicular manslaughter charges.

There were 16 fatalities and 790 injuries involving pedestrian accidents in San Francisco, according to California Highway Patrol’s 2008 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS). Eight deaths and 309 injuries were reported as a result of DUI collisions in San Francisco during the same year.
