Carla Skowronski, 56, was killed in a hit-and-run crash in Rancho Cucamonga after she was struck and killed while walking her dog.
According to a KTLA news report, the fatal pedestrian accident occurred on April 17, Easter Sunday. Officials said that Skowronski and her dog were found in a roadway in a mobile home park in the 9000 block of Foothill Boulevard.
Deadly Pedestrian Crash
Skowronski was unresponsive and the dog was injured when ambulance personnel and fire officials arrived at the scene. She was transported to a local hospital, where she died from her injuries. Skowronski’s family has created a GoFundMe for her to raise money for a reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the driver. The investigation is still ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to call San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department officials at 909-477-2800.
We offer our deepest condolences to the family members of Carla Skowronski for their tragic and heartbreaking loss. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers.
Leaving the Scene of a Crash
Understandably, Skowronski’s family has expressed anger that their loved one was struck and left by a driver to die on the roadway. Her sister Samantha Porter told KTLA that she is angry. She said: “My sister did not deserve that disrespect, her life being taken and them just leaving her like she’s nothing.” This statement reflects the feelings and emotions of families of hit-and-run victims who are left wondering why someone would leave an injured victim lying in the roadway and not even try to help them.
Under California Vehicle Code Section 20001 (a), motorists are required to stop immediately after an injury crash, wait for officials to arrive, exchange pertinent information with others involved in the accident, and most importantly, render aid to the injured victims.
In such cases, families of deceased victims would be well advised to contact an experienced San Bernardino County personal injury lawyer who will stay abreast of the official investigation and make sure that their legal rights and best interests are protected. A knowledgeable car accident lawyer will be able to advise victims’ families about how their own auto insurance policy might apply to a hit-and-run collision where the at-fault driver has not been apprehended or in a case where the driver is uninsured or underinsured.
