Six people were injured in a San Diego car accident, which officials say, involved a rear-end collision. According to a news article in The North County Times, the four-car accident occurred on westbound Highway 76 near Airport Road in Oceanside the afternoon of February 24, 2011. California Highway Patrol officials report that three passenger vehicles and one tractor-trailer were involved in a chain-reaction crash caused by a rear-end accident. A mother who was transporting five young children under the age of 12 was injured. Three children sustained injuries, as did two other adults. It is unclear who was responsible for the initial rear-end accident or if any citations will be issued.
My thoughts and prayers are with the injured victims of this car accident. I wish them all a speedy and complete recovery from their injuries.

What Caused This Car Accident?
Based on this news report, it is not quite clear what caused this rear-end car accident. I trust officials are looking into whether one of the drivers was distracted, speeding or following too closely. According to California Vehicle Code Section 21703: “The driver of a motor vehicle shall not follow another vehicle more closely than is reasonable and prudent, having due regard for the speed of such vehicle and the traffic upon, and the condition of, the roadway.” California Vehicle Code Section 21704 also states that the driver “shall keep the vehicle he is driving at a distance of not less than 300 feet to the rear of any other motor vehicle subject to such speed restriction which is preceding it.”
Liability Issues
In such cases, the at-fault motorist can be held liable for the injuries, damages and losses. Injured victims can seek compensation for medical expenses, lost wages, cost of hospitalization, rehabilitation and other related damages. An experienced San Diego personal injury lawyer will be able to better advise victims about their legal rights and options.
In a car accident that involves multiple vehicles and victims, it would be in victims’ best interests not to rush into settlements or speak with insurance adjusters until they have spoken to their own injury lawyer. The investigation can become lengthy and complex and should definitely be handled by a skilled car accident lawyer. The best personal injury law firms will always offer a free consultation and comprehensive case evaluation to injured car accident victims and their families.
