Marilyn Bosshart, 74, was killed in a San Francisco car accident on state Highway 1 at Devil’s Slide the morning of October 13, 2009. According to a news report in the San Mateo Daily Journal, the driver of a Nissan Z coupe was traveling south on the narrow highway at a high rate of speed. California Highway Patrol officials said the Nissan crossed over the center line and crashed into Bosshart’s car head-on, killing her. The driver of the Nissan was also injured and taken to a San Francisco hospital. The driver of the third car that was involved in the car accident was uninjured.
I offer my deepest condolences to the family and friends of Marilyn Bosshart for their tragic and heartbreaking loss. Please keep this family in your prayers.
San Mateo Area Car Accidents
According to California Highway Patrol’s 2007 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), there were 27 deaths and 2,762 injuries involving car accidents in San Mateo County. In San Francisco, 51 fatalities and 3,632 injuries were reported as a result of car accidents in 2007.
Based on this news report, it appears that the driver of the Nissan was driving recklessly and may have caused this accident that took the life of Marilyn Bosshart. In cases where negligence or wrongdoing is involved, families of deceased car accident victims may be able to file a California wrongful death claim seeking compensation for funeral expenses, loss of wages, loss of love and companionship and other related damages. I trust accident investigators are also looking into whether the driver of the Nissan was under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, whether he was distracted or whether he was simply driving recklessly and negligently. If the driver of the Nissan was in fact at fault, he could be held liable for the accident, damages and injuries caused as a result.
An Experienced San Francisco Personal Injury Lawyer Can Help
Bosshart’s family would be well-advised to consult with an experienced California personal injury lawyer, who will make sure their legal rights are protected and that they receive fair compensation for their loss. A knowledgeable car accident lawyer will also look into whether any dangerous conditions on the roadway may have caused or contributed to this fatal car accident. If that was the case, the governmental agency responsible for maintaining that roadway could also be held liable. Please remember that any such claim in California must be properly filed within 180 days of the accident or injury.
