Two Killed in Long Beach Car Accident

Two women were killed and three others were injured in a car accident in Long Beach, early on the morning of Aug. 16. According to a CBS Los Angeles news report, police officers responded to a two-car crash near the intersection of Pacific Avenue and 21st Street.

A preliminary investigation showed that a 44-year-old Los Angeles woman was driving a 2017 Honda Civic north on Pacific Avenue when she struck a blue 2015 Toyota Camry. The driver of the Honda was in critical but stable condition, along with her passenger, a 30-year-old man.

Speed Was a Factor

A passenger in the Camry, a woman between the ages of 25 and 30, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the car, a 21-year-old Long Beach woman, died at the hospital. Officials believe speed was a factor in this fatal collision. Detectives are also working to determine whether drugs or alcohol were involved. Anyone who witnessed this collision is urged to contact Long Beach police at 562-570-7355.

We offer our deepest condolences to the family members of the deceased victims. We also hope those who were injured make a speedy recovery.

Why Speeding is Dangerous

Speeding endangers everyone on the road. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), in 2019 alone, speeding killed 9,478 people. The agency estimates that in 2019 alone, speeding was a contributing factor in 26% of all traffic fatalities.

Speed can affect safety even when you are driving the speed limit, but too fast for road conditions such as during inclement weather. Speeding endangers not just the person who is speeding, but also others on the roadway. In 2020, during the year of the pandemic, and continuing all the way into this year, we’ve seen an increase in speeding and as a result, an increase in fatal traffic crashes.

Liability Issues

If you have been injured by a speeding driver or if you have lost a loved one in such a crash, you may be able to hold the at-fault driver financially responsible for the injuries, damages, and losses caused. Injured victims can seek compensation for damages including medical expenses, lost income, hospitalization, rehabilitation, pain and suffering, and emotional distress. An experienced Long Beach car accident lawyer will be able to help injured victims and their families seek and obtain maximum compensation for their tremendous losses.
