Woman Critically Injured in Palm Springs Dog Attack

Lauren Musick, a resident of Palm Springs, is in critical condition after a dog attack in Palm Springs. KESQ reports that Musick was attacked and bitten by her own dog, a pit bull, in her home the evening of July 2. When police arrived at the scene after neighbors reported a dangerous dog, they found the pit bull mauling its owner. An officer entered the apartment and stopped the attack by using his taser on the dog. The pit bull then continued to attack officers and others. So, police had to tase the dog multiple times until it was restrained.

Major Injuries Sustained

Musick sustained major injuries as a result of the dog bites and was taken to an area hospital in critical condition. The pit bull died on its way to a local animal shelter. Investigators said the dog was a male pit bull rescued by its owner from the street four years ago. There are no known incidents of aggression with regard to this dog. The police department is looking into why the dog attacked, and also how it died.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Lauren Musick, who has apparently suffered critical injuries as a result of this dog attack. We wish her the very best for a speedy and complete recovery.

Liability in Dog Attack Cases

Based on this news report, it appears that Musick was attacked and severely injured by her own dog. As seen in this case, dog attack victims could end up suffering major or even life-threatening injuries. In addition to physical injuries, victims also sustain severe psychological and emotional injuries ranging from paranoia and depression to post-traumatic stress disorder or PTSD. Regardless of the age of the victims, as dog bite lawyers, we see that victims do suffer these types of psychological issues for a long time after the attack.

If you have been injured in a dog attack, you may be able to file a personal injury lawsuit against the dog owner or some other responsible party. California has a strict liability statute when it comes to dog attacks. This means that dog owners can be held financially responsible for the injuries, damages and losses their pets cause regardless of whether the dog has had prior incidents or whether the attack occurs on public or private property. If you or a loved one has suffered injuries, please contact an experienced dog bite lawyer who can offer you more information about pursuing your legal rights.
