Michael Biel, 51, was killed in a Riverside car accident after he was struck by a vehicle. According to a news report in The Press-Enterprise, the fatal bicycle accident occurred on Rubidoux Boulevard south of 26th Street in Jurupa Valley. Officials say Biel had been riding a bicycle on Rubidoux Boulevard when he was struck by an oncoming truck. Officials are still looking into what caused this fatal crash.

Arthur John Jacobs, 64, was fatally injured in a San Diego car accident after his bicycle was struck by a suspected drunk driver. According to a 10News report, the fatal bicycle accident occurred the night of July 27, 2011 near the intersection of El Camino Real and Cassia Street in Carlsbad.

Witnesses told officials that the 23-year-old driver, later identified as Julianne Elyse Thomson, crashed into a curb and some bushes and sped away into an apartment parking lot. Jacobs was found lying on the roadway and pronounced dead at the scene. Police found Thomson hiding in the bushes shortly afterward. She was arrested on suspicion of DUI, vehicular manslaughter and hit-and-run.

Louis Gabor, 67, died this Tuesday as a result of injuries he had suffered in a Long Beach car accident. According to a news report in The Press-Telegram, the fatal accident occurred at the intersection of Bixby Road and Cherry Avenue in Long Beach, the morning of July 6, 2011, when Gabor’s bicycle was struck by a Chevy S-10 pickup truck. Police say the 66-year-old driver of the pickup truck ran a red light and struck Gabor. The bicyclist suffered critical injuries and died from his injuries July 19, 2011. Officials are in the process of determining if the driver of the pickup truck should face vehicular manslaughter charges.

Sabino Ramirez, 46, was injured in an Orange County auto accident involving a hit-and-run driver, the night of July 11, 2011. According to a City News Service report, the hit-and-run crash occurred near the Euclid Street off ramp of the 91 Freeway in Fullerton. Ramirez was riding his bicycle when a burgundy or purple Jeep or Toyota SUV struck him. He sustained non-life-threatening injuries. Officials are looking for the hit-and-run suspect. Zachary Parke, 25, was killed in a San Francisco area car accident, which officials say involved a hit-and-run driver. According to a news article in The Santa Cruz Sentinel, signs of the fatal bicycle accident were discovered the morning of June 8, 2011, just off Empire Grade Road, near the UC Santa Cruz campus. California Highway Patrol officials are investigating the death as a hit-and-run. Parke was riding from a friend’s home to the house he shared with his mother when he was hit. Another cyclist who noticed clothing and debris on the road found the victim’s body.

Tragic Hit-and-Run

Officials say the driver of a burgundy Nissan or Infiniti is suspected of hitting Parke either late Tuesday night or early Wednesday morning. Pieces of the car’s headlights were found at the scene as were paint chips, bicycle parts and other debris, the article states. Based on the physical evidence, officials say both the car and the bicycle were southbound at the time. Parke’s body was thrown off the bike and found about 20 feet away. Officials have described the suspect vehicle as a Nissan or Infiniti with a damaged headlight, side mirror, fender and other front-end damage. A 15-year-old boy was injured in a Los Angeles car accident when a car struck his bicycle, the afternoon of June 3, 2011. According to a report in The Whittier Daily News, The bicycle accident occurred on Alondra Boulevard, near Pioneer Boulevard, in Norwalk. The young victim was riding east when a car travelling in the same direction hit him. He sustained critical injuries and had to undergo surgery. The female driver of the car remained at the scene of the crash. Officials are investigating what caused the crash and who was at fault.

Fred Walsh, 91, died the night of May 24, 2011 from injuries sustained in a Riverside car accident a week ago. According to a news report in The Press-Enterprise the bicycle accident occurred near the intersection of California Avenue and Rucker Lane in a residential neighborhood. Officials say Walsh’s bicycle was hit by a mid-size pickup truck. An investigation is ongoing.

Eduardo Perez, 71, of Canoga Park died from injuries sustained in a Los Angeles car accident, which officials say, involved a hit-and-run driver. According to an NBC news report, the fatal bicycle accident occurred the afternoon of May 14, 2011 when Perez was riding his bicycle eastbound on the south crosswalk of Sherman Way. Officials say a small, black, four-door SUV hit him. The vehicle was going east on Sherman Way and turning right on Canoga Avenue just before the collision happened.

The driver of the SUV fled the scene of the crash. Perez was transported to a local hospital with critical injuries. He died two days later. Police have arrested a 46-year-old man in connection with a hit-and-run car accident in San Diego, which killed 47-year-old James Steven Swarzman the morning of April 11, 2011. According to a news report in The San Diego Union-Tribune, the fatal bicycle accident occurred on North Highway 101 in Encinitas when a Dodge Ram 1500 truck rear-ended Swarzman’s bicycle. He sustained fatal injuries and died from his injuries. Shortly after the deadly collision, Joseph Ricardo Fernandez, 46, informed authorities that he may have been involved and had left the scene of the crash. Investigators linked Fernandez to the fatal accident based on debris at the scene and arrested him on suspicion of felony hit-and-run. Authorities are also looking into whether alcohol was a factor in this fatal car accident.

A 22-year-old man was seriously injured in a San Diego car accident when the driver of a Toyota sedan hit his bicycle. According to a 10News report, the bicycle accident occurred at the intersection of Fir and Dale streets the afternoon of February 5, 2011. Police believe the bicyclist may have rode through a stop sign before being struck by the Toyota. The victim suffered major injuries including a dislocated shoulder and internal bleeding.
