A motorcyclist was killed in a bus accident in Los Angeles when he collided with a bus the afternoon of February 7, 2011. According to a news report in the Inland Valley Daily Bulletin, the fatal bus accident occurred at the intersection of Foothill Boulevard and Mountain Avenue in Claremont. The motorcyclist suffered fatal injuries. There were no passengers in the bus and the driver of the Foothill Transit bus was uninjured. An investigation is ongoing.

Motorcycle Accident Statistics
According to California Highway Patrol’s 2008 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), three people were injured in Claremont motorcycle accidents. During that same year, there were 114 fatalities and 2,934 injuries reported due to motorcycle accidents in Los Angeles County.
What Caused This Fatal Accident?
The report does not give any specifics as to how this fatal accident occurred. There are more questions than answers here at this point. Did the bus driver attempt an unsafe turn without looking for oncoming motorists at the intersection? Did one of the motorists fail to properly obey traffic lights at the intersection? Was either driver impaired, speeding or driving distracted? Did the bus driver make a dangerous lane change? Did one of the vehicles fail to yield right-of-way at the street intersection?
