Maria Valenzuela, 42, was killed in an Anaheim car accident when a car struck the disabled vehicle in which she was sitting. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, the fatal accident occurred along the 5 Freeway near La Palma Avenue, the night of April 24, 2012. Officials say Valenzuela’s husband was changing a tire on the car when it was hit by another vehicle. Valenzuela was in the car at the time of the crash. She succumbed to her injuries on April 27, 2012. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

Officials have arrested a man on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and gross vehicular manslaughter in connection with a car accident in Orange, which resulted in the death of 49-year-old Charles Bayes. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, the fatal collision occurred the night of April 24, 2012 at the intersection of Lincoln Avenue and Tustin Street. Orange police say Lloyd Mardel Cotton, Jr., 27, drove his Toyota Highlander into opposing lanes on Lincoln and collided head-on with a Honda Civic in which Bayes was the passenger. The driver of the Civic, Bayes’ mother, sustained non-life-threatening injuries. Cotton was arrested on April 26, 2012 following an investigation and blood test.

Charles Bayes, 49, was killed in an Orange County car accident after the vehicle in which he was a passenger was involved in a head-on collision. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, the fatal car accident occurred the night of April 24, 2012 at the intersection of Lincoln Avenue and Tustin Street in Orange. Police say a Honda Civic, heading west on Lincoln from Tustin, was hit head-on by a Toyota Highlander. The Toyota SUV was eastbound on Lincoln before veering into opposing lanes of traffic.

Bayes, who was a passenger in the Civic, was pronounced dead at the scene. The female driver of the Civic was freed from the vehicle and transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The male driver of the Highlander was also taken to a hospital with relatively minor injuries. Investigators are still looking into the cause of the accident. No arrests or citations were reported.

Lang Nguyen, 62, was killed in a Westminster car accident after a vehicle hit him at a street intersection as he was crossing the roadway. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, the fatal pedestrian accident occurred at the intersection of Brookhurst Street and Hazard Avenue in the early hours of April 23, 2012. Westminster police say Nguyen suffered major injuries and was unresponsive following the collision. He died shortly afterward from his injuries. The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene. Investigators are still trying to determine if Nguyen was in the crosswalk at the time. They do not believe alcohol was a factor. The investigation is ongoing.

Three people were injured in an Anaheim car accident, which officials say was caused by a female driver who was fleeing police officers, the morning of April 17, 2012. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, the woman fled the police after apparently trying to cash a forged check. The woman drove her Honda SUV south on the 5 Freeway. She then got off the freeway at Harbor Boulevard, went west on Ball and north on Manchester Avenue. She ended up colliding with two vehicles at the intersection of Broadway. A woman driving a Ford sedan was hospitalized with unknown injuries while a man in a Chevy Blazer was treated at the scene and released. The suspect was also injured, but was arrested on various charges including forgery and evasion.

Two people were injured in a Huntington Beach car accident after a suspected drunk driver struck the center median. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, the DUI collision occurred on Pacific Coast Highway between Warner Avenue and Seapoint Street in Huntington Beach, the evening of April 13, 2012. Officials say a driver was speeding while under the influence, when the vehicle hit the center median and forced a second vehicle to overturn. Two passengers in the overturned vehicle were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the speeding vehicle was taken into custody on suspicion of driving under the influence.

Kimberly Krause, 32, was killed in a Garden Grove car accident, which officials say was caused by a suspected drunk driver. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, the hit-and-run car accident occurred the night of April 12, 2012 at the intersection of Chapman Avenue and Pioneer Drive. Krause was riding a motor scooter east on Chapman, when an SUV driven by 43-year-old Steven Newcomer hit her. The SUV was traveling west on Chapman before its driver tried to turn left onto Pioneer and collided with the motor scooter. Krause was fatally injured. Newcomer left the scene of the crash, but was found shortly afterward and arrested on suspicion of felony DUI, hit-and-run and vehicular manslaughter.

Three people were injured in a Brea car acident the morning of April 11, 2012. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, the major injury collision occurred on Brea Canyon Road near Tonner Canyon Road. California Highway Patrol officials say the driver of a Chevy S10 pickup truck was traveling north on Brea Canyon when she hit the right shoulder guardrail. The pickup’s driver lost control as she re-entered traffic lanes, sideswiping a southbound Honda sedan and then colliding head-on into a Honda Civic. The driver of the Chevy and the male driver of the Honda Civic had to be extricated from the wreckage and transported to area hospitals. A female passenger in the pickup was also hospitalized. An investigation is ongoing.

Three people were injured in a Newport Beach car accident, which officials say was caused by a wrong-way driver. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, the injury collision involving three vehicles occurred the morning of April 8, 2012 on Newport Boulevard. Officials say a man driving a red Toyota Yaris southbound in the northbound lanes of Newport Boulevard, crashed into a pickup truck near Hospital Road. Another car then rear-ended the truck. The Toyota’s driver was transported to an area trauma center with serious injuries. The two other drivers sustained non-life-threatening injuries. Police are still investigating the cause of this crash.
