Cara A. Lee, 20, was killed in a Costa Mesa car accident after the driver of a Toyota pickup truck ran a red light and broadsided the vehicle in which Lee was a passenger. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, the fatal car accident occurred early morning on February 14, 2010 at the intersection of Sunflower Avenue and Sakioka Drive. Police said the driver of the Tundra pickup truck, 22-year-old Gustavo A. Vega, was fleeing an earlier traffic collision in Santa Ana.

Three people sustained injuries in a Los Angeles car accident the night of February 5, 2010 after the driver of a vehicle lost control and crashed at a busy intersection. According to a KTLA News report, the injury crash happened at the intersection of Hollywood Boulevard and Highland Avenue when a car that was northbound on Highland struck another vehicle pushing it into a light pole. A woman who was walking on the roadway was pinned between the pole and the vehicle that was hit. She was transported to an area hospital with serious injuries including a possibly severed leg. Two others also sustained injuries and were transported to a hospital.

I sympathize with all those who were injured in this car accident. I especially pray for the pedestrian, who was the most seriously injured. I hope her injuries were not catastrophic. Please keep this injured victim in your prayers.

A 9-year-old boy, who was killed in a Los Angeles car accident after his scooter was struck by an SUV at a Walnut intersection, has been identified by local officials as Mauricio Vigo. The San Gabriel Valley Tribune reports that the accident occurred near the intersection of Wesleyan Avenue and Temple Avenue in Walnut. Mauricio was riding his scooter downhill turning from Wesleyan to Temple when he was struck by a 2008 Mercedes Benz SUV driven by a 49-year-old man. Mauricio was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead. An investigation is ongoing.

I offer my deepest sympathies to the family and friends of Mauricio Vigo for their tragic and heartbreaking loss. This grieving family will certainly be in my prayers.

Jose Gilbert Garcia, 42 and his 16-year-old nephew Luis Alberto Garcia were killed in a San Bernardino car accident after their vehicle was struck by a parolee who was trying to get away from the police. According to a report in the Whittier Daily News, police were pursuing 26-year-old Luis Lazalde on February 6, 2010, as he headed west on Orchard Street in Montclair. Lazalde’s car collided with a Ford Contour driven by Jose Garcia. Both Jose Garcia and his young nephew died at a local hospital. Lazalde sustained only minor injuries.

Police apparently set up surveillance outside Lazalde’s girlfriends house after he had allegedly threatened to shoot her. When they saw Lazalde’s vehicle, which matched the description provided by the woman, police tried to pull him over, but he fled. Lazalde was arrested on suspicion of evading police, causing bodily injury or death, participating in a criminal street gang and making criminal threats.

A 77-year-old woman sustained serious injuries in a San Francisco pedestrian accident after she was struck by a city bus while walking in a marked crosswalk. The San Francisco Examiner reports that the accident occurred the afternoon of February 9, 2010 at the intersection of San Bruno Avenue and Burrows Street when a 9-San Bruno bus hit the woman. Police officials say she has suffered critical, life-threatening injuries. Police say at least five independent witnesses have said that the pedestrian was in the crosswalk when she was hit.

My heart goes out to this critically injured woman who is apparently fighting for her life. I sincerely hope she makes it through her injuries and has a complete recovery. This injured victim and her family will certainly be in my thoughts and prayers.

An Orange County car accident caused fatal injuries to an 80-year-old man as he was attempting to cross a roadway in Seal Beach. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, the fatal pedestrian accident occurred the morning of January 29, 2010 when the man was crossing at the intersection of Pacific Coast Highway and Bolsa Avenue. He was struck by a vehicle and taken to a hospital where he died from his injuries.

One man was killed in a Sacramento car accident that involved a garbage truck and a satellite television installation van. According to a news report in the Sacramento Bee, the fatal car accident occurred the morning of February 4, 2010 on Folsom Boulevard near Florin Perkins Road. The vehicles collided and then the garbage truck crashed into a children’s daycare center. The driver of the van died. The driver of the garbage truck was transported to an area hospital with major injuries. Thankfully, no one was harmed at the daycare center.

A San Francisco car accident that occurred the morning of January 27, 2010 has left four people with serious injuries. According to a CBS News report, the injury collision happened at the intersection of Arch Street and Brotherhood Way. One of the drivers fled the crash scene. However, he was apprehended immediately afterward by responding police officers. Three injured victims from the car that was struck by the hit-and-run suspect were taken to an area hospital. The victims, including an infant, are expected to survive.

I sympathize with the victims who apparently suffered serious but non life-threatening injuries in this car accident. I’m pleased to note that they are recovering. I hope and pray that they recover quickly and completely.

According to California Highway Patrol’s 2007 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), there were 51 fatalities and 3,632 injuries involving car accidents in San Francisco.

A 76-year-old man was fatally injured in a Fresno car accident after his vehicle was struck by a suspected drunk driver the afternoon of January 24, 2010. The Fresno Bee reports that 23-year-old Michael Freeman was heading west on McKinley Avenue when he struck a Nissan Frontier, which was southbound on Highway 145. The driver of the Nissan was transported to a local hospital where he died from his injuries. Freeman sustained major injuries, but was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence. Dustin Perger, 22, who was a passenger in Freeman’s car, was also hospitalized with serious injuries.

Tung Hoang, 34, was critically injured in a Garden Grove car accident after he was hit by a car while trying to cross the street. According to a news report in the Garden Grove Journal, Hoang was injured in the collision the night of January 22, 2010 while walking across Ward Street near Bolsa Avenue. He was transported with critical injuries to an area hospital. The driver of the vehicle that struck Hoang was identified as 21-year-old Nguyen Vu. He was apparently going north on Ward when the injury accident occurred. Police have not ruled out the involvement of alcohol or drugs. Vu has not been cited or arrested pending a police investigation. Anyone who witnessed this major injury collision is asked to call Garden Grove police at 714-741-5823.
