Los Angeles city officials are offering a $50,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and prosecution of the person responsible for hit-and-run that killed 27-year-old Korina Campos and severely injured her 5-year-old daughter. According to a KTLA news report, the fatal hit-and-run occurred the afternoon of January 30, 2016 near Boyle Avenue and Whittle Boulevard.
Driver Flees on Foot
Campos took her daughter out of the backseat when they were struck. Campos was thrown about 40 feet from the point of impact and died from her injuries. The 5-year-old girl suffered a fractured pelvis, but is expected to survive. Surveillance video of the incident shows a vehicle driving along the curving roadway when it struck Campos’s car and spun out.
The driver lost control of the vehicle, a 2001 Toyota Corolla, before striking the mother and the girl. Officials believe the suspect may have suffered an abdominal injury and may have been bleeding at the scene. When witnesses tried to stop him, he pretended to have a gun in his waistband and fled on foot. He was described as being Hispanic, 30 to 35 years old with tattoos on both forearms, wearing a T-shirt and blue jeans.
We offer our deepest condolences to the family members and friends of Korina Campos for their tragic loss, especially her young daughter. Let us keep this family in our thoughts and prayers. Continue reading →
