Margarita McIntosh, 75, was killed in a Ventura pedestrian accident, which officials say involved a school bus driver who was under the influence of drugs. According to a CBS Los Angeles news report, the fatal collision occurred at the intersection of Woodland Street and Brookshire Avenue, the afternoon of September 26, 2012. Officials say the school bus carrying 11 children was heading north on Brookshire when it made a left turn on Woodland striking the elderly pedestrian who was walking in a crosswalk.

McIntosh was transported in critical condition to an area hospital where she died. The school bus driver, 54-year-old Joanne Madaule, was under the influence of unspecified drugs at the time, California Highway Patrol officials said. She was arrested on suspicion of felony DUI and for being under the influence of a controlled substance. The investigation is ongoing.

An 89-year-old woman suffered major injuries in a Glendale car crash after a motorist struck her. According to a news article in The Glendale News-Press, the major injury collision occurred the evening of September 23, 2012 at the intersection of California and South Glendale avenues. Police say the woman was walking east in the California Avenue crosswalk when the motorist who was traveling west to South Glendale struck her. She suffered major body trauma including a broken leg and upper body bone fractures. Preliminary investigations show that the motorist failed to yield the right-of-way to the woman at the crosswalk. The investigation is ongoing.

At least one person was injured in a Newport Beach car accident after two vehicles collided at a street intersection, the afternoon of September 21, 2012. According to the Daily Pilot, the injury collision occurred at the intersection of Newport Coast Drive and Vista Ridge Road. Officials say the accident involved a delivery truck and a small passenger vehicle. The five-ton truck and a smaller car came into “full-speed contact” at the intersection, police said. One person was transported to an area trauma center in stable condition. Both vehicles were traveling at about 40 mph at the time of the crash.

According to a news article in The Orange County Register, the injury collision occurred at the intersection of El Toro road and Santa Margarita Parkway. Police say the woman was driving northbound on Santa Margarita when her car collided with the crane that was eastbound on El Toro. The woman was transported to an area trauma center with a possibly broken back. The driver of the crane was not injured. At least three witnesses told deputies that the crane had run the red light. The investigation is ongoing.

Six people were injured in a Los Angeles car accident involving four vehicles, the afternoon of September 18, 2012. According to a report in the Los Angeles Daily News, the injury crash occurred in the 10700 block of North Sepulveda Boulevard in the Mission Hills area. Officials said an SUV exiting the 118 Freeway ran a red light and crashed into a truck that was carrying electrical equipment. The impact caused the truck driver to lose control and strike two other vehicles. Six people were transported to area hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries. It is not clear if the driver of the SUV was cited for the red light violation.

Thu Nguyen, 81, was fatally injured in a Garden Grove car accident after a car struck her. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, the fatal pedestrian accident occurred the morning of August 27, 2012 at the intersection of Lampson Avenue and Strathmore Drive. Investigators say Nguyen was walking south across Lampson Avenue when a car traveling east on Lampson hit her. The male driver stopped and waited with the victim until police and paramedics arrived. Police do not believe alcohol or drugs were involved. No arrests or citations were reported. Anyone who witnessed this crash is asked to contact police at 714-741-5823.

Two women, one of them identified as 40-year-old Irma Zamora, were killed and five others were injured after a car crash in Valley Village. According to a report in the Los Angeles Daily News, the two women were good Samaritans who rushed to help the occupants of an SUV that crashed into a light pole near the intersection of Magnolia Boulevard and Ben Avenue, the night of August 22, 2012. The collision knocked down light pole and created a highly charged pool of water electrocuting Zamora and the other woman who came forward to help. Five others also suffered electrical shocks and were hospitalized and remain in serious condition. Officials are also looking into why the driver of the SUV lost control of the vehicle.

I offer my deepest condolences to the family members and friends of Irma Zamora and the other deceased victim who had good intentions in trying to save the crash victims. However, they tragically died in the process of doing a good deed. My thoughts and prayers are also with the seriously injured victims of this crash. A man in his 30s was injured in a Baldwin Park car accident after a vehicle struck him at a street intersection, the afternoon of August 20, 2012. According to The San Gabriel Valley Tribune, the injury crash occurred at the intersection of Baldwin Park and Ramona boulevards. Police say the bicyclist was riding at the intersection when a Honda Accord driven by Dora Vielman, 58, struck him. The man’s head hit the windshield of the car. He suffered non-life-threatening injuries. Officials are investigating the cause of this accident.

Marvin Adams, 66, was killed in a car crash in Riverside County after his wheelchair was struck by a vehicle at a street intersection. According to a news article in The Press-Enterprise, the fatal collision occurred at the intersection of Limonite and Hamner avenues in Eastvale, the morning of August 19, 2012. Police say Adams’ battery-powered wheelchair was in a crosswalk and had reached the eastbound fast lane of Limonite Avenue when a Hyundai Azera crashed into it. The impact was so great that Adams’ scooter-style wheelchair was completely destroyed. The Azera’s front bumper, grill and hood were severely damaged as well. The investigation is ongoing. Anyone who saw this incident is asked to contact Riverside County Sheriff’s deputies at 951-955-2600.

A 75-year-old man was injured in a Ventura car accident involving a driver who fled the scene of the collision. According to a news article in The Ventura County Star, the hit-and-run accident occurred at Kimball Road and Thille Street, the afternoon of July 3, 2012. Officials say the man and his wife were stopped at a red light when their vehicle was rear-ended. The 75-year-old victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries. The hit-and-run driver, 26-year-old Aaron Budzinski, was tracked down and arrested on suspicion of felony hit-and-run.
