A man suffered severe injuries in an Orange County car accident involving a motorcycle and a Toyota Highlander, the afternoon of June 21, 2011. According to The Orange County Register, the motorcycle crash occurred at Maple and First streets in Santa Ana. Officials say that it is unclear which motorist had the right-of-way when the Highlander struck the motorcycle at the T intersection. The male motorcyclist sustained life-threatening injuries in the crash. No arrests have been made and an investigation is ongoing.

A man in his late 30s was injured in a Los Angeles motorcycle accident when his Harley Davidson went out of control and struck the center median. According to a news report in The San Gabriel Valley Tribune, the serious injury accident occurred on Norwalk Boulevard at Pantheon Street in Norwalk, the afternoon of June 5, 2011. The man was traveling southbound when his Harley Davidson veered out of control and hit the center median. He suffered severe head trauma in the crash. Officials are looking into what caused this motorcycle accident.

A 39-year-old man was injured in a San Diego car accident when a Nissan Versa pulled ahead of his motorcycle. According to The San Diego Union-Tribune, the motorcycle accident occurred on Linda Vista Road in Linda Vista, the afternoon of June 3, 2011. The motorcyclist was travelling south on Linda Vista, near Ulric Street, when the 50-year-old male driver of the Nissan pulled out of a restaurant parking lot and made an unsafe lane change. The motorcyclist braked hard in an attempt to avoid a collision and was ejected. The victim flipped over the motorcycle’s handlebars and hit the back of the car, suffering a lower leg and wrist injury. He was transported to an area hospital. It is not clear if the driver of the car will be cited for making an unsafe lane change.

A motorcyclist was injured in an Orange County car accident after his Kawasaki collided with another vehicle. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, the motorcycle accident occurred near the intersection of Crowther and Placentia avenues in Placentia the morning of May 12, 2011. Officials say the collision involved a Toyota Avalon and a Kawasaki Vulcan motorcycle. The motorcyclist was hospitalized following the crash. The uninjured car driver remained at the scene. An investigation is ongoing.

A 25-year-old man was injured in a San Francisco car accident when a car turned left in front of his motorcycle. According to a news report in The Press Democrat, the injury motorcycle accident occurred at Coffey and West Steele lanes in Santa Rosa the morning of May 11, 2011. The man was riding his Honda 1000 sport bike when a Hyundai SUV attempted a left turn ahead of him. The motorcyclist suffered a brain bleed when he was thrown onto the windshield of the SUV. Officials say the driver of the Hyundai was an unlicensed 16-year-old girl. The owner of the SUV was cited for permitting the juvenile to operate the vehicle and the young driver may face charges as well.

Unsafe Left Turn

It appears based on this news account that the young driver made an unsafe left turn in front of the motorcycle. California Vehicle Code Section 21801 (a) states: “The driver of a vehicle intending to turn to the left or to complete a U-turn upon a highway, or to turn left into public or private property, or an alley, shall yield the right-of-way to all vehicles approaching from the opposite direction which are close enough to constitute a hazard at any time during the turning movement, and shall continue to yield the right-of-way to the approaching vehicles until the left turn or U-turn can be made with reasonable safety.”

Jesse Norris, 32, of Chino Hills, was killed in a motorcycle accident in Orange County the morning of May 1, 2011. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, the fatal motorcycle crash occurred early morning in the 1900 block of West Orangewood Avenue in Orange. Police say Norris hit a curb and then a wooden sign. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Police are investigating the cause of this fatal accident.

A 21-year-old U.S. Marine was fatally injured in a motorcycle accident in Escondido after he lost control of his cycle and crashed. According to a news report in the North County Times, the fatal motorcycle accident occurred the afternoon of April 16, 2011 on Highway 78 just west of Interstate 15. The Marine failed to negotiate a curve on the highway and was thrown from his motorcycle, according to a medical examiner’s report. He was transported by ambulance to a local hospital where he died shortly afterward. An investigation is ongoing.

I offer my deepest condolences to the family and friends of this deceased victim. My heart also goes out to his fellow Marines. They will be in my thoughts and prayers.

Victor Vaz and Vicky Tschirgi, both 47 years old, were critically injured in a San Francisco area car accident when their Harley Davidson crashed on a highway. According to a news report in The Press Democrat, the serious injury accident occurred on Highway 101 near Petaluma the night of April 3, 2011.

Vaz and Tschirgi were travelling on the same 2006 Harley Davidson motorcycle when a big rig collision slowed traffic on the highway. As Vaz was doing about 35 mph through traffic, a vehicle ahead of him attempted to change lanes, but swerved back after its driver spotted the motorcycle. Vaz lost control of his motorcycle. He and his passenger, Tschirgi, were thrown off the motorcycle and sustained critical injuries. An investigation is ongoing.

A man was injured in an Orange County car accident when his motorcycle was struck by a car pulling out of the car-pool lane the morning of March 17, 2011. According to The Orange County Register, the motorcycle accident occurred in the southbound lanes of the 55 Freeway near the 22 Freeway in Orange. California Highway Patrol officials say the motorcyclist was splitting lanes on his Kawasaki Ninja when he was struck by a Toyota Corolla. The impact from the collision pushed the motorcycle into another vehicle. The motorcyclist was transported to an area hospital for treatment of unknown injuries. An investigation is ongoing.

A 35-year-old motorcyclist sustained major injuries in a Huntington Beach car accident the morning of March 14, 2011. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, the injury motorcycle accident occurred at the intersection of Magnolia Street and Yorktown Avenue when the man’s Suzuki motorcycle collided with a 1996 Honda Civic. The motorcyclist was transported to a local trauma center with serious injuries. The driver of the Honda Civic, an 18-year-old, was not injured.
