Edward Salkin, 81, of Corona del Mar, was killed in a Newport Beach pedestrian accident, which officials say, involved a suspected DUI driver.

According to a news report in The Orange County Register, the fatal pedestrian accident occurred on Pacific Coast Highway near Morning Canyon the night of June 12, 2014.

Officials say Salkin was struck by a truck driven by 23-year-old Robert John Greaney of Costa Mesa.

A man suffered critical injuries in an Orange County car accident after a vehicle struck him near a street intersection.

According to a news report in The Orange County Register, the major injury crash occurred near the intersection of Dale Avenue and Standustrial Street the night of May 27, 2014.

Police say a 2004 Mazda SUV headed north on Dale hit the man when he stepped off the curb.
The 27-year-old driver remained at the scene of the crash.

The pedestrian was thrown about 10 to 15 feet on impact. The man suffered severe head trauma.

Officials say the wheelchair-bound man was crossing from the north to the south side of Orangethorpe when a vehicle that was traveling east struck him. Jorge Altisent, 78, was killed in an Irvine car accident after being struck by a car near University High School. A new study by Ohio State University has found that about 2 million injuries each year occur as a result of pedestrians walking while using their cell phones. According to a news report in The Daily Breeze, Jack Nasar, the professor who conducted the study, said that distracted walking is not yet an offense, but that it can be potentially dangerous for pedestrians. He says that although a pedestrian’s body may be in the environment, his or her head is elsewhere. When a pedestrian is texting, his or her eyes and attention are seldom on the roadway.
