Thu Nguyen, 81, was fatally injured in a Garden Grove car accident after a car struck her. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, the fatal pedestrian accident occurred the morning of August 27, 2012 at the intersection of Lampson Avenue and Strathmore Drive. Investigators say Nguyen was walking south across Lampson Avenue when a car traveling east on Lampson hit her. The male driver stopped and waited with the victim until police and paramedics arrived. Police do not believe alcohol or drugs were involved. No arrests or citations were reported. Anyone who witnessed this crash is asked to contact police at 714-741-5823.

Two women, one of them identified as 40-year-old Irma Zamora, were killed and five others were injured after a car crash in Valley Village. According to a report in the Los Angeles Daily News, the two women were good Samaritans who rushed to help the occupants of an SUV that crashed into a light pole near the intersection of Magnolia Boulevard and Ben Avenue, the night of August 22, 2012. The collision knocked down light pole and created a highly charged pool of water electrocuting Zamora and the other woman who came forward to help. Five others also suffered electrical shocks and were hospitalized and remain in serious condition. Officials are also looking into why the driver of the SUV lost control of the vehicle.

I offer my deepest condolences to the family members and friends of Irma Zamora and the other deceased victim who had good intentions in trying to save the crash victims. However, they tragically died in the process of doing a good deed. My thoughts and prayers are also with the seriously injured victims of this crash. Marvin Adams, 66, was killed in a car crash in Riverside County after his wheelchair was struck by a vehicle at a street intersection. According to a news article in The Press-Enterprise, the fatal collision occurred at the intersection of Limonite and Hamner avenues in Eastvale, the morning of August 19, 2012. Police say Adams’ battery-powered wheelchair was in a crosswalk and had reached the eastbound fast lane of Limonite Avenue when a Hyundai Azera crashed into it. The impact was so great that Adams’ scooter-style wheelchair was completely destroyed. The Azera’s front bumper, grill and hood were severely damaged as well. The investigation is ongoing. Anyone who saw this incident is asked to contact Riverside County Sheriff’s deputies at 951-955-2600.

A man was struck and killed in a Orange County car accident while crossing a street. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, the fatal pedestrian accident occurred the night of August 8, 2012 at the intersection of El Toro Road and Moulton Parkway. Investigators say the pedestrian was crossing Moulton when a small truck hit him. The man was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver remained at the scene. So far, no arrests or citations have been reported. An investigation is ongoing.

A 44-year-old woman was injured in a car crash in West Covina after she was struck by a vehicle that was making a right turn. According to a news report in The San Gabriel Valley Tribune, the major injury collision occurred at the intersection of Azusa Avenue and Rowland Avenue the afternoon of July 26, 2012. Police say the woman was walking on Azusa Avenue when a Ford Expedition that made a right turn from Rowland to Azusa struck her and dragged her for about 20 feet. The driver, a 64-year-old Covina man was not even aware that he had hit the pedestrian. A passerby yelled for the driver to stop and he did. The pedestrian suffered serious leg injuries and was transported to an area hospital. The driver was not arrested pending an official investigation.

A man was injured in a car crash in Riverside County when a Jeep struck him as he crossed the street. According to a news report in The Press-Enterprise, the pedestrian accident occurred on Stetson Avenue in front of Hemet High School in Hemet the morning of July 25, 2012. Officials say the man was crossing Stetson at Stanford Street when an eastbound Jeep traveling at about 35 mph hit him. The driver said that he could not see the pedestrian until it was too late. The victim was hospitalized with serious injuries. At the time of the report, the driver was not cited for the collision.

A man suffered critical injuries in a Seal Beach car accident after a vehicle crashed into the bus bench on which he was sitting. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, the major injury crash occurred the night of July 23, 2012. The vehicle drove into a bench inside a bus shelter on Seal Beach Boulevard just north of Pacific Coast Highway.

The victim was trapped in the debris of the collapsed bus shelter. Police say he was sitting on the bench just before the vehicle crashed into it. The victim was transported to an area trauma center where he has been listed in critical condition. The driver stopped at the scene and talked to officials, but it is not clear why the crash occurred. Officials do not believe alcohol or drugs were involved. Anyone who witnessed this crash is asked to contact police at 562-799-4100, ext. 1612.

Lourdes Jauregui, 39, of Cathedral City, was killed in a pedestrian collision, which officials say involved a suspected drunk driver. According to a CBS news report, the fatal DUI collision occurred near the intersection of Converse Road and Date Palm Drive in Cathedral City, early morning on July 7, 2012. Police say the vehicle that struck Jauregui was driven by James Coley, 49, of Newport Beach. Coley showed signs of intoxication and was booked on suspicion of driving under the influence. The investigation is ongoing.

A 2-year-old child was injured in a Fullerton car crash after an elderly man struck the stroller in which the toddler was riding, the morning of June 28, 2012. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, the injury collision occurred in a crosswalk at the intersection of Yorba Linda Boulevard and Deerpark Drive. The 88-year-old man was driving a Lexus LS north on Deerpark and turned left onto Yorba Linda. He hit the stroller being pushed by the child’s mother.

Crosswalk Collision

The impact caused the child to be thrown from the stroller onto the pavement. The child suffered a head injury. The mother and a 9-year-old child suffered relatively minor injuries. All three were transported to an area hospital for treatment. Several witnesses who saw the collision yelled at the driver to stop, but he continued driving slowly. One of the witnesses followed the elderly man and stopped him about 50 yards away. The driver then remained at the scene and talked to police. Officials are still in the process of determining whether the driver “inadvertently stepped on the accelerator instead of the brake” just before he hit the stroller. The elderly driver’s license is also under review.

Osmara Mesa, 5, was killed and her sister and mother, remained in critical condition after a Santa Ana car accident that was caused by a suspected DUI driver who left the scene of the crash. According to a news article in The Orange County Register, the fatal accident occurred at the intersection of 17th and Spurgeon streets, the morning of June 23, 2012. Police say the mother and her two children were walking in a marked crosswalk when 33-year-old Jessica Louise Cowan drove her Lexus through a red light and struck the pedestrians. Cowan tried to get away, but was stopped by a driver who witnessed the crash. Cowan is facing several charges including felony hit-and-run, felony DUI and vehicular manslaughter.

Tragic DUI Collision

Osmara died at the scene. Her mother, 45, suffered severe head trauma and is in critical condition after this Santa Ana pedestrian accident. Her 6-year-old sister also suffered head injuries, but is expected to survive. Cowan was driving 60 mph or more at the time as she headed west on 17th Street. Officials say they would not have Cowan in custody now had a female driver not cut off and trapped Cowan at Main and 17th streets.

I offer my deepest condolences to the family members of Osmara Mesa who are grieving the loss of this little girl and are caring for two other critically injured family members. This family will be in my thoughts and prayers. I wish the two severely injured victims the very best for a speedy and complete recovery. I commend the driver who saw the hit-and-run car accident and courageously stopped the driver who tried to get away. This person is truly a hero!
