Father Seeks Justice for Son Killed in Hit and Run Crash Days Before His Graduation

By

Christopher Frushon was only 19 and days after from his high school graduation when he was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver in Compton. According to a CBS Los Angeles news report, Frushon was walking across Wilmington Avenue in a marked crosswalk near Stockwell Avenue when he was hit by a car and launched into the air. Sheriff’s officials say the driver was speeding when he or she ran the red light. Surveillance cameras caught the car speeding away from the scene.

Passers-by helped the injured teen, but he did not survive his injuries. Christopher’s father Gerald Frushon says his son was artistic, loved music and his family. He was set to graduate from Manuel Dominguez High School days later. Gerald Frushon said he and his family members are looking for justice and answers and called on the hit-and-run driver to turn himself or herself in. Police investigators have described the suspect vehicle as a midsize sedan, possibly a Charger or a Kia with possible damage to the front end and the roof due to the impact.

Our heartfelt condolences go out to the Frushon family for their tragic loss. Let us keep them in our thoughts and prayers.

Leaving the Scene of a Crash

Based on this news report, it appears that the driver of the vehicle was not only driving at an unsafe rate of speed and blew a red light at the intersection, but also struck the teen who was walking in a marked crosswalk at the intersection. As if these violations were not enough, the driver then fled the scene of the crash leaving the teen lying in the roadway, exposed to further danger.

California Vehicle Code Section 20001 (a) requires motorists to stop immediately and remain at the scene of a crash. In fact, under the law, if you leave the scene of an injury or fatal crash, you could face a felony criminal charge, which is a serious offense. This is true even if you were not at fault for the crash.

Justice for Victims and Families

Hit-and-run victims and their families are often left with not just emotional trauma, but also staggering financial expenses stemming from the need for medical treatment or having to meet funeral costs and other unforeseen expenses. More than anything else, family members who have lost loved ones, like the Frushon family, are looking for answers and seeking justice for their loved one. In such cases, an experienced Los Angeles personal injury lawyer may be able to help offer more information regarding their legal rights and options.
