Five Injured in Explosion on Boat in Huntington Beach

An explosion on a boat that was sailing a Huntington Harbour channel left five people with injuries. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, the recreational boat was sailing in the main channel of Huntington Harbour the afternoon of Nov. 1 when the explosion occurred.

Blast and Injuries

Neighbors said they heard the loud explosion out of the back of a 30- to 32-foot boat sailing by in the channel. They also said they saw smoke and heard people screaming.

All the people aboard the boat were able to get off and swim to safety. Orange County Sheriff’s Department officials who patrol the harbor said five people were injured in the explosion including three adults and two minors.

Another adult was on the boat but not injured. All were taken to nearby hospitals. But their current condition is not known. They are all expected to survive. It was not immediately clear what caused the explosion. The Orange County Sheriff’s Department is still investigating.
