Fullerton Car Accident Leaves Two Students Injured

By

Two Fullerton Union High School students were injured in an Orange County car accident after two vehicles collided and careened into them as they crossed the street. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, the pedestrian accident occurred near the intersection of Pomona and Chapman avenues in Fullerton, the morning of September 8, 2011. The two cars struck each other at the intersection and one or both of them hit the two students who were walking to their school. The young victims suffered non-life-threatening injuries. An investigation is ongoing.

My thoughts and prayers are with the two high school students injured in this Orange County accident. I wish them the very best for a complete and speedy recovery from the injuries they have sustained.

Pedestrian Accident Statistics

According to California Highway Patrol’s 2009 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), one person was killed and 63 were injured in Fullerton pedestrian accidents. During that same year, there were 41 fatalities and 864 injuries reported due to Orange County pedestrian accidents.

What Caused This Orange County Car Crash?

It appears that this pedestrian accident was the result of a two-vehicle car collision at the street intersection. Investigators will have to determine what caused the initial accident. The intersection where this crash took place is monitored by traffic lights. Did one of the motorists violate California Vehicle Code Section 21453 by running a red light? Was either driver speeding or driving distracted? Did one of the drivers violate California Vehicle Code Section 21800 (a) by failing to yield the right-of-way at the intersection? I trust officials are looking into these and other issues in order to determine precisely what occurred here and why.

Liability Issues

Victims of Orange County car crashes may file a personal injury claim seeking compensation for their losses. Damages that may be covered through civil litigation include medical expenses, pain and suffering, emotional distress, and cost of physical therapy. Car accident victims would be well-advised to contact an experienced Orange County personal injury lawyer, who will analyze all aspects of the incident and ensure that the negligent parties are held liable.
