Yihng Ma, 19, was killed in a Los Angeles car accident after she was hit by a vehicle while crossing the street. According to a KTLA news report, the fatal pedestrian accident occurred the night of January 31, 2011 near the intersection of Walnut Grove Avenue and Marshall Street in Rosemead. The driver of the vehicle that struck Ma did not stop. Ma died at the scene. Witnesses to the hit-and-run accident describe the suspect vehicle as a newer white or gray van or SUV. I offer my deepest condolences to everyone who knew and loved Yihng Ma for their tragic, untimely and devastating loss. Please keep this grieving family in your thoughts and prayers.
Pedestrian Accidents
According to California Highway Patrol’s 2008 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), there were no fatalities, but 10 injuries reported involving pedestrian accidents in Rosemead. In Los Angeles County as a whole, 214 people died and 4,985 were injured due to pedestrian accidents during the same year.
Leaving the Scene of a Car Accident
Based on this news report, it appears that the driver here struck Ma and then fled, leaving her to die on the roadway. What kind of person would hit and critically injure another human being and then leave them lying on the roadway without care or medical attention? I certainly hope that this individual is soon apprehended and brought to justice. Not only is leaving the scene of an injury car accident inhumane and irresponsible, but it is also illegal.
California Vehicle Code Section 20001 (a) states: “The driver of a vehicle involved in an accident resulting in injury to a person, other than himself or herself, or in the death of a person shall immediately stop the vehicle at the scene of the accident.” If you have any information about this hit-and-run driver, please visit our web site at www.hitandrunreward.com to find out how you can offer an anonymous tip and become eligible to receive a $1,000 reward.
Protecting Victims’ Rights
The families of those killed in hit-and-run accidents would be well-advised to contact an experienced Los Angeles personal injury lawyer, who will stay abreast of the official investigation and make sure that their legal rights and best interests are protected. A knowledgeable car accident lawyer should inform families about how their car insurance policy applies to an incident where the hit-and-run driver is never identified, or, in a case where the at-fault motorist is uninsured or underinsured.
