A 20-year-old woman sustained injuries in a Los Angeles car accident after her vehicle was struck by a van at an Irwindale intersection. The San Gabriel Valley Tribune reports that the injury collision occurred the evening of April 12, 2010, when the woman’s Chevy Malibu was struck by a Chevy Astro van at the intersection of Cypress Street and Irwindale Avenue. The Malibu was traveling east on Cypress and the Astro van was heading west on Cypress. The collision occurred as the van’s driver attempted to turn left from Cypress to Irwindale. The Malibu’s driver was injured. But officials say they are not life-threatening injuries.
I’m glad to hear that neither one of the drivers sustained major injuries. I wish the injured driver of the Malibu the very best for a speedy and complete recovery.
Car Accidents

Fault and Liability
California Vehicle Code Section 21801 (a) states: “The driver of a vehicle intending to turn to the left or to complete a U-turn upon a highway, or to turn left into public or private property, or an alley, shall yield the right-of-way to all vehicles approaching from the opposite direction which are close enough to constitute a hazard at any time during the turning movement, and shall continue to yield the right-of-way to the approaching vehicles until the left turn or U-turn can be made with reasonable safety.”
Based on this news report, it is not clear who had the right-of-way at the time of the collision. Did one of the drivers run a red light or a stop sign? If the driver of the Astro van is determined to have been at fault for failing to yield right-of-way to the vehicle traveling straight through the intersection, he or she could be held liable for this injury crash. An experienced Los Angeles car accident attorney will help analyze all aspects of the accident and make sure that the negligent parties are held accountable in such cases.
What tips would you offer to drivers to prevent such accidents at intersections?
