A 71-year-old man was killed in a bicycle accident in Ladera Heights, which is an unincorporated area of Los Angeles County.
According to a report on My News LA, the fatal crash occurred early on the morning of Sept. 18 at the intersection of Centinela Avenue and Alvern Street.
DUI Investigation
California Highway Patrol officials said a 2019 Toyota Camry driven by 27-year-old Michael Tesfai was westbound on Centinela Avenue in the number two lane when the man on the Cannondale bicycle south on Alvern Street made a right onto westbound Centinela and was struck by the car.
The bicyclist was pronounced dead at the scene by Los Angeles County paramedics. Tesfai was arrested on suspicion of DUI and booked at the LA County jail after being treated for abrasions to his eyes and being medically cleared, officials said.

Based on this news report, it appears that the driver of the Toyota that struck and fatally wounded the bicyclist may have been under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs at the time of the collision.
