Nine people were injured in a pedestrian accident in Westlake after a pickup truck jumped a curb and struck several people on the morning of June 11.
According to a KTLA news report, the incident occurred in the 600 block of South Alvarado Street. The driver of a Ford F-150 told the LAPD that he was driving on Wilshire Boulevard when he saw what he believed was a man pointing a gun at him.
Ongoing Crash Investigation
The man said he swerved to avoid the supposed gunman and lost control of his vehicle, which jumped onto the sidewalk and struck several vendors and pedestrians. In total, nine people were struck including two 8-year-old children, police said. Six of the people who were struck were hospitalized including one adult with serious injuries. All are expected to survive.
Police interviewed both the driver and witnesses at the scene and determined that there was no armed person at the scene. Officials also said they found no evidence of driver impairment.
