One person has died and another has been hospitalized with serious injuries after a vehicle crashed into a bus stop in Elysian Park.
According to a KTLA news report, the incident occurred on the afternoon of July 13 near North Broadway and Bernard Street. Fire officials confirmed that one person died and another was taken to a trauma center in critical condition.
Injury and Fatality in Elysian Park Bus Stop Crash
The vehicle was traveling south in North Broadway when it jumped the curb and hit two men who were sitting on a bench. One of the victims was trapped under the vehicle. Officials did not have information about the driver, including whether they stayed at the scene and cooperated with investigators. No further information was available.
We offer our deepest condolences to the family members of the deceased victim. We also wish the critically injured victim the very best for a speedy and complete recovery.
Ongoing Investigation and Liability Issues
In this particular case, there are a number of unanswered questions. Why did the driver of the vehicle lose control? Were they driving at a high rate of speed or at an unsafe speed given the roadway and traffic conditions? Did alcohol or drugs play a part in this fatal crash? Was the driver distracted or fatigued at the time of the crash? We trust officials are looking into these and other issues in order to determine precisely what occurred here and why.
In such cases, injured victims can seek compensation from the at-fault parties for damages such as medical expenses, lost wages, hospitalization, rehabilitation, pain and suffering, and emotional distress. Families of deceased victims can also seek compensation by filing a wrongful death claim.
In this case, it is also unclear if the driver remained at the scene. In hit-and-run cases, injured victims or victims’ families may be able to seek compensation through the uninsured motorist clause of their own auto insurance policy, if they have it included in their coverage. A similar approach could also work if the at-fault driver in such cases is uninsured or underinsured. An experienced Los Angeles personal injury attorney will be able to advise victims and their families in such cases regarding their legal rights and options.
