Frank Terreri, 88, was killed in an Orange County car accident after he lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a tree. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, the fatal car accident occurred on Fairview Road near Fair Drive the night of December 18, 2010. Police say Terreri was northbound on Fairview in a 1986 Oldsmobile Cutlass when he swerved to the left and struck the tree in the median. Police suspect Terreri was not wearing his seatbelt and hit the steering and windshield on impact. An investigation is ongoing.
I offer my deepest condolences to everyone who knew and loved Frank Terreri. Please keep this grieving family in your thoughts and prayers.
Car Accident Statistics
According to California Highway Patrol’s 2008 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), there were six fatalities and 785 injuries involving car accidents in Costa Mesa. In Orange County as a whole, 152 people died and 13,414 were injured in car accidents during the same year.
Possible Car Accident Causes
Based on this news report, it is not quite clear what caused Terreri to lose control of the vehicle and crash into the tree. Officials are looking into whether a medical condition may have caused or contributed to the incident. Authorities also say no other vehicles appear to have been involved. There are still several unanswered questions here. Was there a vehicle defect or mechanical malfunction in the Oldsmobile? Was Terreri unrestrained or was he thrown into the windshield because of a defective seatbelt? I trust these and other factors are being examined in order to determine precisely what occurred here.
Compensation Issues
In such cases, it would be in the best interest of the victim’s family to preserve the vehicle in its current, crashed condition, unaltered, so it can be carefully examined for product defects, malfunctions and other evidence. An experienced Orange County personal injury lawyer will be able to analyze all facets of the incident and ensure that the negligent parties are held liable. If a defective seatbelt contributed to the fatal injuries, the auto maker or manufacturer of the defective product can be held liable. The best personal injury law firms will always offer a free consultation and comprehensive case evaluation to injured victims and their families.
