A man and a woman were seriously injured in a dog attack after their son’s shepherd-pit bull mix mauled them.
According to a news report in The Orange County Register, the dog bite incident occurred at a home in the 9900 block of Oakwood Circle the morning of April 8, 2014.
Orange County Sheriff’s officials said the rescue dog belonged to the couple’s son and had displayed “aggressive behavior” shortly after the son got it.
Authorities do not know what caused the dog to apparently attack the family.
The dog first attacked the father and later his wife when she tried to intervene. A neighbor
sprayed the dog with a hose and got it penned to a closed bedroom. The man suffered serious injuries to his arm. Both were transported to an area hospital for treatment.
The dog was impounded and placed into a 10-day quarantine while county officials conduct a dangerous dog investigation, which can take several weeks.

Nearly 800,000 of those dog bites require medical care. Approximately 92 percent of fatal dog attacks involved male dogs, 94 percent of which were not neutered.
Also, about 25 percent of fatal dog attacks involved chained dogs and 71 percent of dog bites occurred to victims’ extremities such as arms, legs, hands and feet.
About two-thirds of bites occurred on or near the victim’s property and most victims knew the dog.
