A driver and a passenger were critically injured in an Orange County truck accident involving a big rig. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, the major injury accident occurred at the intersection of Beach Boulevard and Imperial Highway in La Habra the early morning of February 21, 2011. The two injured victims had to be removed from their white Ford Mustang after it was crushed in an accident with a TAMO, Inc. truck. Both victims sustained critical injuries. It is unclear what caused this accident or if either driver will be cited for the accident.
My thoughts and prayers are with the injured victims of this car versus truck accident. I wish them both a speedy and complete recovery.
Car Accident Statistics
According to California Highway Patrol’s 2008 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), one person was killed and 255 were injured in La Habra car accidents. During that same year, there were 152 fatalities and 13,414 injuries reported due to Orange County car accidents.
What Caused This Street Intersection Accident?
Based on this news report, this crash occurred at a street intersection. The intersection where this truck accident occurred is controlled by traffic lights. Investigators will have to determine if one of the drivers violated California Vehicle Code Section 21453 by running a red light. Did one of the drivers fail to yield right-of-way at the intersection?
According to California Vehicle Code Section 21800 (a): “The driver of a vehicle approaching an intersection shall yield the right-of-way to any vehicle which has entered the intersection from a different highway.” I trust officials are also looking into whether impairment, driver distraction, driver fatigue, speed or other factors played a part here.
Liability Issues
If the truck driver is determined to have been at fault, then both, the driver and his employer could be held liable for the injuries, damages and losses caused. Injured victims in such cases can seek compensation for medical expenses, loss of earnings, cost of hospitalization, rehabilitation and other related damages. Car accident victims would be well-advised to contact an experienced Orange County personal injury lawyer, who will analyze all aspects of the incident and ensure that the negligent parties are held liable. The best personal injury law firms will always offer a comprehensive case evaluation at no charge to injured victims and their families.
