Ruben Crummie, 71, was killed in an Inglewood car accident after he was struck by two vehicles. According to a CBS news report, the fatal pedestrian accident occurred the night of February 2, 2012 near the intersection of Crenshaw Boulevard and Hardy Street. Inglewood police say Crummie exited his stalled truck to get gas when he was hit. The first car that hit him stopped, but the second driver fled the scene. Police are hoping that witnesses to the incident will provide them information about the second driver. No arrests have been made pending an official investigation.

An elderly woman was injured in a Los Angeles car accident after she was struck by a vehicle while crossing the street, the evening of February 1, 2012. According to a news report in The San Gabriel Valley Tribune, the injury collision occurred at the intersection of Ellen Drive and Cypress Street, which is in an unincorporated area of Los Angeles County near Covina. The California Highway Patrol is investigating the collision. The pedestrian was transported to an area hospital for treatment. The nature or extent of her injuries is not known at this time.

February 1, 2012-Santa Rosa, CA-44-year-old Monica Shears died Monday from burns sustained in a house fire last week, authorities reported.

Ms. Shears was discovered on the ground just inside the doorway to her apartment on Sebastapol Road on January 16. Firefighters entered the building to fight a blaze which started in an empty bedroom on the second floor of the building. According to Battalion Chief Mark Basque, an empty gasoline can was found in the bedroom where the fire started. Sprinklers were able to contain the blaze, which was extinguished in about five minutes. No charges have been filed in the case at present.

Ms. Shears suffered second- and third-degree burns over the upper part of her body. She had earlier been transferred to the Bothin Burn Center at St. Francis Memorial Hospital in San Francisco.

Louisa Valdovinos, 55, of Menifee, was killed in a Riverside car accident, which officials report involved a suspected drunk driver. According to a news article in The Press Enterprise, the fatal DUI collision occurred on Winchester Road south of Scott Road near Menifee, during the early morning hours of January 29, 2012. Officials say 30-year-old Jason M. Richter, of Oceanside was under the influence of alcohol when his Pontiac Grand Am drifted into oncoming traffic and struck a Toyota Corolla. The driver of the Corolla, Valdovinos, died at the scene of the crash. Richter sustained critical injuries, while his wife suffered moderate injuries. Richter may face DUI and vehicular manslaughter charges.

A 12-year-old girl was injured in a dog bite incident in Riverside County, the afternoon of January 29, 2012. According to a news report in The Press Enterprise, the dog attack occurred near East Rider Street and Evans Road in Perris. Officials have quarantined the pit bull involved in the attack and the young victim has been hospitalized for her injuries. The extent of her injuries has not been reported and it is not clear if the dog’s owner will be cited or charged in connection with this attack.

Jose Javier Diaz, 55, was fatally injured in a Santa Ana car accident after he was struck by two vehicles while crossing the street. According to a CBS news report, the fatal pedestrian accident occurred in the 400 block of South Broadway Street, the night of January 28, 2012. Police say Diaz was walking across Broadway when a white pickup truck traveling northbound hit him, knocking him into the southbound lane where a green Ford Mustang with a black convertible top struck him. Both, the pickup truck and the Ford left the scene. Anyone with information about this incident or the about the hit-and-run vehicles is asked to call Santa Ana police at 714-245-8701.

A 57-year-old woman suffered a serious head injury in a San Diego car accident after a vehicle struck her at a street intersection. According to a news report in U-T San Diego, the injury collision occurred at the intersection of Wightman Street and Marlborough Avenue the morning of January 26, 2012. Officials say the 30-year-old driver of a GMC pickup truck stopped at a stop sign and then attempted a right turn. The pickup hit the woman, knocking her to the ground. She was transported to a local hospital with severe head injuries. It is not clear if the driver will be cited for this collision.
