Toshio Hirai, 34, a 12-year-veteran and lead member of the Gardena Police Department’s SWAT team, was killed in a motorcycle accident the morning of Nov. 14. According to a KABC news report, Hirai was riding his motorcycle in Los Angeles near 238th Street and Western Avenue when he was struck by a 17-year-old driver. Officials said she had a driver’s license and stopped at the scene to cooperate with officials. Police say alcohol or drugs were not factors in the collision and no arrests were made. Man Dies Days After Long Beach Bicycle Accident
Bryan Lembke, 39, died Nov. 11, days after he suffered critical injuries in a Long Beach bicycle accident. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, the incident occurred on Nov. 7 when Lembke was rear-ended while biking westbound in the third lane of Spring Street near the 605 Freeway. The driver, a 53-year-old Cypress man, remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. No arrests or citations have been reported yet. Tree Trimmer Suffers Severe Electrical Shock Injuries On the Job in Tustin
A tree trimmer was hospitalized Nov. 10 after he suffered a severe electrical shock while cutting branches near wires in the backyard of a Tustin home. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, the incident occurred in the 11600 block of Marble Arch Drive. The man in his 30s had suffered a shock and became unconscious while tethered to a tree. The tree trimmer, who is employed with a private company, was working near electrical wires using a pole with a saw at the end of it when it touched a high-voltage power line causing the man to be shocked. Toddler Killed, Father Critically Injured in East Whittier Pedestrian Accident
Harlee Ferris, 24 months, was killed and her father Robert Ferris, 32, was critically injured after a vehicle struck them both the evening of Nov. 4. According to a KABC news report, the dad and daughter were crossing Santa Gertrudes Avenue when a sedan traveling north on Santa Gertrudes hit them. Costa Mesa Firefighter Critically Injured in Mission Viejo Bicycle Accident
Mike Kreza, a Costa Mesa Fire Captain, has been critically injured after being struck by a driver in Mission Viejo the morning of Nov. 3. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, the bicycle accident occurred on Alicia Parkway near Via Burgos. When Sheriff’s deputies arrived at the scene, they found Kreza lying in the roadway. He was unresponsive with visible head and body trauma. Bicyclist Fatally Injured in Van Nuys DUI Hit and Run Crash
A bicyclist was struck and killed in a Van Nuys hit and run accident early morning Nov. 1. According to a City News Service report, the hit-and-run driver was later apprehended and taken into custody on suspicion of driving under the influence. Anaheim Woman Killed in Long Beach Hit and Run Crash
A 22-year-old Anaheim woman has been fatally injured in a Long Beach pedestrian accident, which officials said, involved a suspected hit-and-run driver. According to a news report in the Orange County Register, police responded to he 5500 block of East Second Street early morning on Oct. 28 and found the woman lying in the street. Man Arrested in Fatal Pasadena Hit and Run Crash
Police have arrested a driver in connection with a Pasadena hit-and-run collision that killed 27-year-old Jessica Torres Oct. 21. According to a news report in the San Gabriel Valley Tribune, police have arrested 24-year-old Francisco Javier Soto-Cedillo on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter and hit and run. Bus Crash on 405 Freeway in North Hills Leaves Dozens Injured
A charter bus crash in the San Fernando Valley sent dozens of people to the hospital and triggered additional crashes. According to a KTLA news report, the incident occurred the afternoon of Oct. 14 when the bus that was traveling north on the 405 Freeway in the North Hills area crashed into a number of other vehicles. Elderly Woman Suffers Injuries in Riverside Dog Attack
A 77-year-old woman is recovering from injuries she suffered in a dog attack after the animals attacked her during a morning stroll. According to an NBC Los Angeles news report, the victim was bitten several times by two dogs. The incident occurred near the intersection of College and Norwood avenues just north of La Sierra University’s campus. Officials said the woman did nothing to provoke the Italian Mastiffs as she walked through a residential area. Continue reading →
