Nine children were injured, five seriously, in a Dana Point van accident after a passenger van carrying children from a childcare center, crashed into a tree the afternoon of Oct. 3. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, the incident occurred near Dana Point Harbor Drive and Cove Road. Five of the patients, ages 9 to 12, were transported to an area trauma center with non-life-threatening injuries. Four other children received treatment for relatively minor injuries. Jade Maldonado, 14, was killed in a San Bernardino pedestrian accident, which officials say, involved a hit-and-run driver. According to a news report in the San Bernardino Sun, the teen was struck near Glasgow Avenue and Pacific Street the morning of Sept. 28. Police say she was crossing the street in a marked crosswalk on her way to Pacific High School when a vehicle, described as a tan 2000 to 2004 GMC SUV traveling at about 40 to 50 mph, struck her and kept on driving. Oscar Martinez, 33, was killed in a Lake Forest pedestrian accident, which officials say, involved a hit-and-run driver. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, the fatal crash occurred the evening of Sept. 24. Witnesses reported the man lying in the street suffering from a head injury near the intersection of Ridge Route Drive and Rockfield Boulevard. A Los Angeles Fire Department ambulance struck and critically injured a pedestrian in Downtown Los Angeles the afternoon of Sept. 21. According to a KTLA news report, the person who was hit at the intersection of Fifth Street and Broadway, sustained life-threatening injuries. The victim was transported to an area hospital. Officials did not say whether the ambulance was transporting anyone at the time of the collision. No other information was released. Los Angeles Police Department officials are investigation the incident.

Jacob Farrand, 24, was killed in a La Habra car accident, which officials say, was caused by a suspected drunk driver. According to a KTLA news report, the incident occurred early morning on Sept. 20 at the intersection of La Habra and Harbor boulevards. Nazarey Flores Arizmendi, a 2-year-old boy, was killed after he was struck by a commercial truck in Moreno Valley the morning of Sept. 12. According to a KTLA news report, firefighters responded to the 24000 block of Fir Avenue after getting a report of a child hit by a commercial vehicle. They arrived at the scene and found the young boy dead. The Coroner’s report said the boy dead about eight minutes after being struck. No other details were immediately provided about the incident. Police do not believe drugs or alcohol played a part in this incident. The cause of the crash is still under investigation. Continue reading →

An 11-year-old boy who was walking to school in Montclair was struck and killed by a pickup truck the morning of Sept. 6. According to a KTLA news report, the boy who had just been dropped off near Vernon Middle School was hit while walking in a marked crosswalk at the intersection of San Bernardino Street and Vernon Avenue. An 86-year-old man was killed in a Huntington Beach car accident after a vehicle crashed into the back of a pickup truck causing the truck to roll over. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, police officers responded to the incident the afternoon of Aug. 31 at the intersection of Warner Avenue and Nichols Lane. A man was killed in a bicycle accident in Lancaster the morning of Aug. 25. According to a KTLA news report, the deadly collision occurred along Avenue K east of Stanridge Avenue. Preliminary investigations show that the bicyclist was riding west on Avenue K in the bicycle lane, when a man was driving a vehicle westbound as well. A 24-year-old woman was killed and eight others were injured in a 10-vehicle car accident on the southbound 5 Freeway in Irvine early morning on Aug. 23. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, officials say the fatal crash that occurred near the Alton Parkway exit, was triggered by the actions of a suspected drunk driver, who was also injured but arrested.
