Eduardo Gutierrez, 55, was killed in an auto accident the afternoon of July 8, 2017 after a passing tow truck struck him as he was changing a tire on his vehicle. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, Gutierrez was stopped off the westbound 10 at the exit to the 210 in Redlands when he and his vehicle were hit by the tow truck. A police officer suffered injuries after officials say a suspected drunk driver ran a red light in Costa Mesa and struck the officer’s patrol vehicle. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, two officers were traveling westbound on Del Mar Avenue at Newport Boulevard in a marked police car the night of July 3, 2017. That’s when a man driving a Chevy Suburban northbound on Newport Boulevard drove through a red light and broadsided the police car.

One of the officers suffered a non-life-threatening shoulder injury. The driver, 66-year-old Leslie Lorrimer of Mission Viejo, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of felony DUI. The investigation into this case is still ongoing. Our thoughts and prayers are with the police officer who was injured in this suspected DUI collision. We wish him the very best for a quick and full recovery.

Two men died and three others suffered serious injuries in an Irvine car accident on July 1 near UC Irvine. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, the fatal crash occurred at the intersection of Harvard Avenue and Michelson Drive. Irvine police and Orange County Fire Authority officials who responded to the collision found a 2015 Infiniti Q50 on fire and put out the blaze. A male driver was transported to an area hospital in critical condition.

Two loose pit bulls killed a cat, chased a woman and bit a man the morning of June 23, 2017. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, several eyewitnesses contacted police to report that two dogs had killed a cat in the 3100 block of South Lowell Street. A man was injured in a Costa Mesa pedestrian accident, which officials said, involved a suspected drunk driver who left the scene of the crash. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, the incident occurred early morning on June 18 at the corner of West 19th Street and Newport Boulevard. The driver did not stop or remain at the scene of the accident.

A witness followed the suspect’s vehicle to Dyer Road at the 55 Freeway where California Highway Patrol officials stopped and arrested the suspect, 25-year-old Andrew Jacob Luevano, on suspicion of felony DUI and hit and run causing injuries. Charlene Hanson, 71, was killed in a Santa Ana pedestrian accident the evening of June 17, 2017. A 31-year-old Seal Beach resident was killed in a Long Beach car accident, which officials say, involved a suspected drunk driver. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, the victim was a passenger in a 2000 Toyota Avalon that hit a utility pole at Clark Avenue and Eagle Street early morning on May 20, 2017. When officers arrived at the scene, they discovered two passengers inside. They pulled an unconscious man out of the vehicle and administered CPR.

Fire department paramedics determined that the passenger at died. The other passenger, a 24-year-old Long Beach man, suffered a broken leg. He was transported to a local hospital.
