Four people including two young children were seriously injured in a two-vehicle car accident in South Los Angeles. According to a City News Service report, the incident occurred the afternoon of November 17, 2016 in the 300 block of West 108th Street. Two girls, one 8 months old and another about 3 years old, were ejected from the vehicle. The children, and a man and a woman, were all seriously injured and transported to an area hospital. One person was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence. The investigation into the incident is still ongoing.

Saul Lopez, 15, a 10th grader at Vaughn Charter School was killed in a bicycle accident in Pacoima. According to a news report in the Los Angeles Daily News, the fatal collision occurred the morning of November 15, 2016 at the corner of Glenoaks Boulevard and Vaughn Street. Lopez was riding his bike to his school when a 2016 Dodge Ram pickup truck, which was southbound on Glenoaks Boulevard collided with a 2006 Chevy pickup headed east on Vaughn Street.

The impact sent both trucks in a southbound direction where the Dodge struck the boy, who was riding west in the south crosswalk at the intersection. Lopez was pinned under the Dodge. It is not clear which truck had the right of way. Both motorists stopped at the scene and cooperated with police and neither was arrested. Anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to contact Valley Traffic Division at 818-644-8000.

A Pasadena man has been accused of drunk driving in connection with a car accident in Los Angeles that killed a 4-month-old girl and injured a 10-year-old boy and a woman on the 110 Freeway in Elysian Park. According to a news report in the San Gabriel Valley News Tribune, 26-year-old Jared Silvestri was allegedly under the influence when the crash occurred on the northbound 110 Freeway just south of the 5 Freeway. California Highway Patrol officials said Silvestri was at the wheel of a 2001 Chevrolet when it slammed into the rear of a 2006 Chrysler that was slowing and pulling over to the right shoulder. A man was critically injured in a Santa Ana pedestrian accident the night of October 19, 2016. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, the major injury collision occurred near the intersection of Warner Avenue and Shelton Street. Police say the pedestrian, a 55-year-old man, was crossing Warner Avenue when he was hit. He was transported to an area hospital as a critical trauma patient as he had suffered a serious head injury. But he was reported to have been in stable condition.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation. Officials don’t believe the driver was under the influence of alcohol or drugs. The driver was not cited or arrested. Officials are also looking into whether the pedestrian was in a crosswalk when he was struck. The investigation is ongoing.

Cassidy Korenaga, 24, was killed in a motorcycle accident in Fullerton the evening of September 14, 2016. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, the fatal motorcycle crash occurred at the intersection of Rosecrans Avenue and Parks Drive near D. Russell Parks Junior High School. The motorcycle collided with a silver Chevy Suburban at the intersection. Korenaga was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Suburban was uninjured. Alcohol or drugs are not believed to be involved. No arrests or citations were made pending an official investigation.

At least 16 people were injured in a Metrolink train accident in Los Angeles when a commuter train carrying 187 passengers struck a box truck According to a news report in the Los Angeles Times, the collision occurred the morning of September 6, 2016 when a Metrolink train heading south toward Los Angeles on the Antelope Valley line struck a tractor-trailer sitting on the tracks. Jorge Lopez, a 57-year-old electrician with Caltrans was struck and killed in a freeway accident in Acton the morning of September 1, 2016. According to an NBC Los Angeles news report, Lopez was standing outside his vehicle on State Route 14 when a tanker truck struck him. Two other Caltrans employees driving behind Lopez were not injured. The incident occurred at Red Rover Mine Road.

Governor Jerry Brown issued a statement in honor of Lopez saying that the death of this 16-year agency veteran marked the 185th Caltrans employee to die on the job. Caltrans has said it would post notices on its statewide network of electronic highway signs reminding motorists to watch out for highway workers. Officials are once again reminding motorists to slow down, watch out for highway workers and safely move over a lane when passing work crews.

Nine people were injured, four seriously, in an Irvine car accident after an 81-year-old Dana Point man crashed through a fence, struck two cars and plowed into several pedestrians at the Irvine Meadows Amphitheater the night of September 3, 2016. According to a KABC news report, the incident occurred in the 8800 block of Irvine Center Drive near the box office right before the start of a concert at the popular venue.

Officials said the elderly man, whom they later identified as Joon Kyu Kim, drove through the parking lot near the entrance and suddenly hit a fence and several pedestrians. He then hit an unoccupied, parked police car pushing it into a grassy area where people were picnicking. Several people were injured and treated for their injuries. None of the injuries are believed to be life threatening. It was unclear what caused the crash. Police have ruled out the involvement of alcohol or drugs. No citations or arrests were reported. The investigation is ongoing.

At least five people were injured in a Los Angeles crash when a dump truck collided with a Metro bus. According to an NBC Los Angeles news report, the incident occurred the morning of August 31, 2016 next to the 405 Freeway on Jefferson Boulevard. The Metro Transit Authority bus was traveling east on Jefferson Boulevard. A dump truck carrying gravel was driving off of the northbound off ramp of the 405 Freeway when it struck the bus. There were six people on the bus including the driver when the crash occurred.

Four people were transported to the hospital. Two of the four people transported, the truck driver and a bus passenger were classified as “immediate,” which means they required medical attention right away. California Highway Patrol is investigating the cause of the crash. The traffic signal appeared to have been working after the crash. So, it is not clear if the collision was the result of a mechanical problem or the truck driver’s error.
