A 5-year-old boy nearly drowned in a swimming pool accident, which occurred at a community pool in Garden Grove. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, the incident occurred the night of July 8, 2016 in the 13000 block of Lampson Avenue. The boy was found submerged in the pool. His uncle had done CPR and was able to resuscitate him. Firefighters were told the boy might have been in the water for about two minutes. Officials said the boy was lethargic, but breathing. He was transported to an area hospital in stable condition.

James Hogg, 37, was killed in a motorcycle accident in Anaheim after officials said he lost control and crashed. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, the fatal crash occurred along the westbound 91 Freeway at Tustin Avenue the morning of July 1, 2016. California Highway Patrol officials said Hogg appears to have veered right just before the Tustin overpass, hitting the curb and losing control before the bike ran up and embankment and both slammed into the overpass.

Based on preliminary investigations, officials do not believe any other vehicles played a role in this incident. Passing motorists reported the downed motorcycle around 7:30 a.m., but Orange County Coroner’s investigators place the time of Hogg’s death around 1 a.m. Anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to contact CHP at 949-559-7888.

Two mothers and four children were killed in a fiery car accident early morning on June 28, 2016. According to a KABC news report, the two dads were airlifted to area hospitals for injuries they sustained while trying to save their families from a burning minivan. California Highway Patrol officials said the crash occurred on the southbound 5 Freeway near Gorman School Road.

A minivan carrying two families collided with a black BMW and stopped on the far right shoulder, still partially in the lane. The minivan was then rear-ended by a semi-truck, pushed into a ravine and caught fire. CHP officials and the two fathers desperately tried to save the women and children trapped in the burning vehicle, but were not successful. Both men suffered burn injuries to their hands and faces. An investigation is still ongoing.

Arturo Zamarripa, 33, was killed in a motorcycle accident in Long Beach involving a vehicle that was making a left turn. According to a City News Service report, the fatal crash occurred the night of June 22, 2016 at the intersection of Seventh Street and Newport Avenue. Police said Zamarripa was riding a 2008 Harley-Davidson east on Seventh Street when it collided with a 2000 Toyota Tacoma driven by a 70-year-old Long Beach man who was going west on Seventh Street and turning left to go south on Newport Avenue. A 58-year-old man was killed in a Los Angeles bicycle accident, which officials say, involved a hit-and-run driver. According to an NBC4 news report, the incident occurred the night of June 21, 2016 in the 100 block of North Crescent Heights Boulevard in Beverly Grove. Police said the bicyclist who was riding on First Street was struck by a vehicle at a high rate of speed at the intersection of Crescent Heights Boulevard.

The bicyclist was thrown 75 feet due to the impact. The female driver fled the scene. The bicyclist was hit by another car, but that driver stopped and will not face any charges. The hit-and-run driver also struck another vehicle about a block away from the fatal crash. The driver is believed to have abandoned the red Ford SUV after the second crash. A detailed description of the driver was not available. The investigation is ongoing.

Victor Webb, 23, was killed in a Laguna Niguel motorcycle accident. Jessica Rangel, 21, was killed in a Fullerton car accident after a pickup truck struck her as she was crossing the street. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, the fatal pedestrian collision occurred the night of June 14, 2016 at the intersection of Valencia Drive and Lemon Street. Rangel, who was struck by a red Toyota Tacoma was transported to an area trauma center with critical injuries.

She succumbed to her injuries. The Tacoma’s driver, a 39-year-old man, remained at the scene and cooperated with officials. Police say they don’t believe alcohol or drugs played a part in the incident. They are also looking into whether the woman was in the crosswalk at the time of the collision. Steven Joseph Vega, 29, was killed in a motorcycle accident in the San Fernando Valley, which officials say, involved a hit-and-run driver. According to a report in the Los Angeles Daily News, the fatal motorcycle accident occurred at the intersection of Devonshire Street and Arleta Avenue early morning on June 4, 2016. Police said the black and white 2009 Suzuki motorcycle was traveling east on Devonshire and was turning south on to Arleta Avenue when it collided with an unknown vehicle.

Vega was ejected from the motorcycle. He was transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead. The driver of the vehicle fled the scene and is wanted on suspicion of hit-and-run. Officials have offered a $50,000 reward to those who can provide information about the hit-and-run driver. Anyone with information is asked to call LAPD at 818-644-8000.

Kenoa Stewart, 36, was killed in a car accident in Hacienda Heights early morning on June 2, 2016 after her vehicle became wedged under the back of a big rig on the 60 Freeway. According to a news report in the San Gabriel Valley Tribune, the crash occurred on the eastbound 60 Freeway just east of Seventh Avenue. California Highway Patrol officials said the woman was driving a 2002 Saturn L100 east in the number three lane.

A 2009 Volvo big rig was traveling directly in front of her. Officials say the Saturn went out of control and became wedged underneath the right rear of the semi-trailer, between the number three and number four lanes. Stewart was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. The driver of the big rig, a 57-year-old man from La Puente, was uninjured. The crash remains under investigation. Continue reading →

A 57-year-old woman was killed in a pedestrian accident in Van Nuys. According to a KABC news report, the incident occurred the night of May 29, 2016 in the 16400 block of Victory Boulevard. LAPD officials said the woman was crossing the street when a vehicle struck her. A Good Samaritan stopped and called 911. But, the pedestrian’s injuries were so severe that she died at the scene. The 18-year-old driver of the vehicle that struck the woman fled the scene, but he later turned himself in to authorities. He is facing felony hit-and-run charges. Police are still investigating this fatal pedestrian accident.
