A jury in Los Angeles has cleared Caltrans of any wrongdoing in a 2012 freeway crash in West Covina, which left a 5-year-old boy quadriplegic and seriously injured his sister. According to a City News Service report, the children, Jeremiah Dunmore and Brionna Samuels, were riding in a minivan that was pierced by a guardrail after a tire blowout. The jury deliberated for less than a day before reaching the verdict. Samuels, now 25 and Jeremiah, now 8, were the most seriously injured when the tire blew out on the minivan, which their grandmother was driving.
Studio City Bicycle Accident Proves Fatal
Cairo Joseph Castaneda, 42, of North Hollywood, was killed in a bicycle accident in Studio City the morning of April 5, 2016. According to a news report in the Los Angeles Daily News, Castaneda was cycling west in the 12000 block of Ventura Place when he entered the intersection at Radford Avenue. He was struck by a privately-owned trash truck. Castaneda was pronounced dead at the scene. Officials are still looking into what caused this fatal collision. No citations or arrests were reported. The incident is under investigation.
Paul Walker’s Daughter Will Continue Lawsuit Against Porsche Over Auto Defect Allegations
Meadow Walker, the daughter of late “Fast and Furious” star Paul Walker, has said she will move forward with her lawsuit against Porsche in spite of the automaker’s victory in court this week in a related case. According to an ABC news report, on Monday, U.S. District Judge Philip S. Gutierrez ruled that there was not enough evidence to show that the Porsche Carrera GT, which Walker’s friend Roger Rodas was driving at the time of the fatal crash that took both their lives, lacked basic safety features that could have potentially saved the two men’s lives.
Update: As of 4/8/16, a $10.1 Million settlement from the estate of Rodas has just been disclosed. The money will be placed in a trust for Meadow Walker.
Man Suffers Leg Injuries in Fullerton Car Accident
A man suffered a severe leg injury after a vehicle struck him as he was getting out of his car. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, a woman in her 50s was driving west in the 2100 block of Valencia Drive the evening of March 30, 2016 when she veered into a nearby parked car. She struck the car and a man in his 60s who was exiting his vehicle. He was transported to an area trauma center with leg injuries, but his injuries are not considered to be life threatening. The female driver was taken to an area hospital with complaints of pain. The cause of the crash is still under investigation.

Fatal South Gate Hit-and-Run Crash
Police are seeking a suspected hit-and-run driver in a deadly collision that killed two people identified as 15-year-old Angie Ruiz and Lester Larios, 55, both of Bell. According to media reports, the collision occurred the afternoon of March 26, 2016 at the intersection of Garfield Avenue and El Paseo Street, just south of the city border that separates South Gate and Bell Gardens. Illegal U-Turn Injures Motorcyclists in San Diego

On March 21, 2016, a 28-year-old man was injured in a motorcycle accident after a vehicle that was making an illegal U-turn struck him.
According to a report in The San Diego Union Tribune, the victim was on a 2010 Harley Davidson headed north on Euclid Avenue when a southbound vehicle made an illegal U-turn right into the path of the motorcycle. The rider crashed into the passenger side of the vehicle, which had exited state Route 94, and was thrown onto the roadway. He was transported with severe facial injuries. Four Injured in Huntington Beach Wrong-Way Crash
Four people were injured in a wrong-way car accident in Huntington Beach after a driver crossed over a center median and hit several vehicles the night of March 17, 2016 – St. Patrick’s Day. According to a City News Service report, the crash was reported in the 17300 block of Beach Boulevard. The driver was traveling north on Beach Boulevard when he drove over a raised median and into the path of multiple cars.
Huntington Beach police are looking into whether the wrong-way driver was drinking. But, they say, he was “exhibiting some of the characteristics of someone who was drinking.” Four others sustained life-threatening injuries. The crash is still under investigation by Huntington Beach police. No charges have been filed pending the official investigation.

Two Injured in South Los Angeles Car Accident
At least two people were injured in a car accident in South Los Angeles after a big-rig crashed into a Tom’s Jr. Burger restaurant early morning on March 12, 2015. According to a KTLA news report, the U.S. Postal Service truck was traveling on Florence Avenue when it collided with a sedan going south on Hoover Street.
The impact from the collision caused the truck to veer off the roadway and into the restaurant’s storefront. No workers were in the restaurant at the time. The truck driver was trapped in the wreckage and was extricated by firefighters. He was transported to an area hospital with serious injuries. The driver of the car was also hospitalized with unknown injuries. The investigation is ongoing.

Skateboarder Killed in Anaheim DUI Crash
Andrew Garcia, 26, was killed in an Anaheim DUI crash after a pickup truck struck him while he was skateboarding. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, the fatal pedestrian accident occurred around midnight on March 12, 2016. Police say Garcia was skateboarding northbound on Magnolia Avenue near Ball Road when a Nissan Titan, driven by 63-year-old Jose Frutos Gonzalez, struck him.
Gonzalez fled after hitting Garcia. Witnesses followed him to an apartment complex in the 900 block of South Dale Avenue. Garcia was transported to an area trauma center where he died the following day from his injuries. Gonzalez was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence. The investigation is still ongoing.

Man Killed in Orange County Freeway Crash
John Meyer, 64, was killed in a car accident in Mission Viejo after officials say a speeding vehicle struck the scooter on which he was traveling. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, the Costa Mesa man was driving a 2013 Piaggio scooter in heavy traffic on the 5 Freeway the evening of March 1, 2016 when a man driving a 2006 Dodge rear-ended Meyer’s scooter and another vehicle, causing both of them to hit three other vehicles. California Highway Patrol officials said the driver of the Dodge was going “too fast.”
Meyer was thrown from his scooter and hit the freeway where he suffered head, neck, chest and leg injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Dodge was not intoxicated at the time, but was visibly distraught and received trauma intervention. No one else was injured.
