A 90-year-old man was killed in a Santa Ana pedestrian accident after he was hit by a pickup truck.

According to a news report in The Orange County Register, the fatal crash occurred early morning on May 5, 2014 in a marked crosswalk near East Hobart and Oak street.

A 2003 Toyota driven by a female driver in her 50s, struck the man.

The driver stopped and remained at the scene.

A car accident at a street intersection in Lancaster proved fatal for Herminia Espinoza, 57, and Megan Solano, 3, both of Lancaster. According to a report in the Los Angeles Daily News, several others including children were also injured in this crash, which occurred the evening of May 3, 2014 at the intersection of Lancaster Boulevard and 25th Street East.

Eleven people suffered burn injuries in a fire and explosion at a La Habra chrome polishing plant the morning of April 29, 2014. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, one worker said he felt the huge explosion and saw many of his co-workers had been badly burned, some of them with their skin hanging off. The explosion left 11 people injured, two critically, with burns over about 90 percent of their bodies. In addition, four people had intermediate and five others had minor injuries.

A school bus accident in Anaheim Hills has left three students and the bus driver seriously injured after the vehicle left the roadway and crashed into trees the afternoon of April 24, 2014. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, the injury crash, involving an Orange Unified School District bus was reported on Nohl Ranch Canyon Road near East Walnut Canyon Road. Anaheim police officials say the bus left the roadway and struck a tree and a lamppost. Investigators are not clear why the driver lost control of the bus.

Kathy Sieberhein, 44, was killed in a Huntington Beach bicycle accident after a vehicle struck her. According to a news report in the Daily Pilot, the fatal crash occurred at Adams Avenue and Ranger Lane the night of April 16, 2014. Police say they found Sieberhein lying in the street and a red 2001 Chevy 1500 pickup truck nearby. The critically injured bicyclist was taken to an area trauma center where she died from her injuries a few hours later.

There is no question that Los Angeles streets are dangerous for bicyclists. However, there are some roadways that pose more of a risk than others. According to a KPCC news report, researchers at MIT’s Media Lab are helping determine if some roadways are riskier for bicyclists than others through a new city mapping project called “You are Here.” Launched earlier this month, the project will release one map per day for the next year with the ultimate goal of having 100 different maps for different cities. The maps used 2012 crash data. The team of researchers chose to tackle bicycle accident data first because of the demographic trends occurring in cities throughout the United States as more people choose to live in the city as opposed to the suburbs.

A man and a woman were seriously injured in a dog attack after their son’s shepherd-pit bull mix mauled them.

According to a news report in The Orange County Register, the dog bite incident occurred at a home in the 9900 block of Oakwood Circle the morning of April 8, 2014.

Orange County Sheriff’s officials said the rescue dog belonged to the couple’s son and had displayed “aggressive behavior” shortly after the son got it.

Authorities do not know what caused the dog to apparently attack the family.

An 11-year-old boy suffered a severe mouth wound after a dog attack in Winchester the afternoon of March 29, 2014.

According to a news report in The Press-Enterprise, the boy was inside the den of a house on Stuber Street playing with friends when the dog lunged at him.

A first attack was blocked with a cue stick, but the 2-year-old female pit bull attacked again, biting the boy in the mouth. He suffered a severe lower lip injury.

Seven people were injured, at least one critically, in a two-vehicle crash in Lake Los Angeles the evening of March 27, 2014.

According to a CBS Los Angeles news report, the major injury collision occurred at the intersection of 165th Street and Avenue S east of Palmdale.

Initial reports state that as many as three people were in critical condition and that the crash involved two vehicles colliding head on.

Some of the crash victims were airlifted to a regional hospital. Two of those victims were children. Four others suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

Officials say that the crash occurred on a dark and isolated stretch of road. The cause of the crash is under investigation.

A 15-year-old boy riding a bicycle suffered life-threatening injuries after a vehicle struck him. According to a City News Service report, the crash occurred the morning of March 20, 2014 at the intersection of Bushard Street and Rose Avenue. Police say a Volvo sedan was southbound on Bushard when the bicyclist entered the street from the west curb line of Bushard north of Rose Avenue. The driver of the Volvo remained at the scene and the boy was transported to an area hospital where he remains in critical condition.

Officials do not believe alcohol or drugs played a part.
