A 73-year-old Fullerton woman has been arrested on suspicion of hit-and-run in connection with a crash that critically injured a 28-year-old pedestrian in Pacific Palisades. According to a CBS Los Angeles news report, the major injury collision occurred the night of February 14, 2014 when the pedestrian was walking across Pacific Coast Highway north of Temescal Canyon Road in a marked, flashing pedestrian crosswalk. Anna Soon Ma crashed her 2010 Toyota Prius into the pedestrian and then left the scene. The man suffered severe head trauma and was hospitalized. Ma was later arrested and charged.

A new government report is showing that fewer children are dying in car accidents.

According to a CBS News report, a U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) report shows that over the last 10 years, child traffic accident deaths declined by 43 percent. Health officials say the use of car seats and booster seats drove this decline.

However, sadly, one-third of the children 12 and under who died in 2011 were not buckled up. The CDC report focused on crash deaths of children 12 and under and covered 2002 through 2011 when traffic deaths overall declined to levels not seen since the 1940s.

Murder by DUI: Sherri Lynn Wilkins, a substance abuse counselor who drove two miles through Torrance with a critically injured man on her windshield, was convicted this week of second-degree murder, drunk driving and hit-and-run charges. The Associated Press reports that Wilkins’s blood alcohol level was nearly twice the legal limit for driving when she struck and fatally injured 31-year-old Phillip Moreno in November 2012 on Torrance Boulevard.

A driver was killed in a truck accident in Ontario after the tractor-trailer he was driving struck another big-rig that was parked on the shoulder and veered off the roadway. According to a press release issued by the San Bernardino County Coroner, California Highway Patrol officials were sent to the northbound Interstate 15 early morning on January 30, 2014 after reports of a two-vehicle accident. The officers found the tractor-trailer, which came to rest at the southbound Interstate 15 to Interstate 10 overpass. The driver of the tractor-trailer died at the scene. The investigation is ongoing.

Police are seeking the public’s help to find a hit-and-run driver who police say struck and injured a 9-year-old girl. According to a news report in The Press-Enterprise, the injury crash occurred at California Street and Plum Avenue the afternoon of January 16, 2014 a couple of miles west of Ontario International Airport. The girl suffered a broken arm and facial cuts. She has been released from the hospital and is recovering at home.

William Jay Kiernan, 47, was killed in a motorcycle accident after a vehicle turned left in front of him at an intersection in Phelan. According to a news report in the Victorville Daily Press, the fatal collision occurred near the intersection of Sheep Creek Road and Daisy Lane. California Highway Patrol officials say 27-year-old Christopher Durbin was driving a 2002 Toyota Tundra pickup north on Sheep Creek at 30- to 35 mph when he attempted to make a turn directly in the path of the motorcyclist.

Robert Ramage, 24, was killed in a hit-and-run crash in Northridge not far from his home the morning of January 15, 2014. According to a KABC news report, the fatal collision occurred at the intersection of Balboa Boulevard and Parthenia Street. Officials say a tan 2001 Ford Ranger pickup truck was traveling west on Parthenia when it slammed into a 1993 Ford Escort that was traveling south on Balboa. The truck continued on Balboa crashing into a parked vehicle.

A 3-year-old boy had to get 50 stitches after a dog attacked him when he was with a family member at a Lowe’s Home Improvement Center in Murrieta. According to a KABC news report, the incident, captured on the store’s surveillance video, occurred the morning of December 28, 2013. Police say the child was in the store with an adult family member while his father was shopping nearby at the store in the 24700 block of Madison Avenue. The dog, which was with its owner on a leash near the child, bit the boy in the head when he went to pet the dog.

Nine people were injured, two critically, in a Los Angeles area car crash the evening of December 22, 2013. According to a CBS Los Angeles news report, the incident occurred in the 20300 block of Parthenia Street in Winnetka. Police said an SUV collided with a minivan sending the van careening into the curb of a home. A surveillance camera mounted onto the home caught the accident on video, which investigators are examining.

At least 14 people were injured, one seriously, when a Riverside Transit Authority bus, a car and a tow truck crashed the morning of December 19, 2013. According to a news report in The Press-Enterprise, the incident occurred at Highway 74 and Briggs Road in Romoland. California Highway Patrol officials said the bus was heading west approaching Briggs Road in rainy weather when it slid and spun sideways striking a Pontiac Bonneville that was traveling in the opposite direction. A tow truck following the Bonneville also hit the car.

A 48-year old woman driving the car suffered major injuries and was transported to a regional hospital for treatment. Fire officials said 14 people including the car’s driver were transported to hospitals. Two suffered serious injuries and 12 others suffered minor to moderate injuries. The cause of the crash is under investigation. Investigators are also performing a mechanical inspection of the bus.
