Police are asking for the public’s help to find a driver who they say was involved in a hit-and-run crash near the USC campus that left a student injured. According to a KABC news report, the 20-year-old student was crossing the intersection of 18th Street and Figueroa Avenue the night of November 5, 2013 in a marked crosswalk when a driver ran a red light and struck him. The victim was transported to a local hospital with injuries to his hip and shoulder. The suspect’s vehicle is believed to be a 2008 Honda. The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact 1-877-527-3247.

A bus driver suffered major injuries and three students were hospitalized after a school bus accident in Santa Maria. According to a news report in the Santa Maria Times, the loose fertilizer arm of a passing farm truck crashed into the front of a school bus transporting 10 students to Righetti High School the morning of October 30, 2013. Three students, identified as Morgan Garten, 15, Julisa Gutierrez, 15, and Koby Ernst, 14, suffered non-life-threatening injuries. The 44-year-old bus driver, Yolanda Zepeda, suffered major injuries, but she is expected to survive.

A 54-year-old man was killed in a Los Angeles motorcycle accident, which officials say, involved a hit-and-run driver. According to a CBS Los Angeles news report, the fatal crash occurred at the intersection of Soto Street and Lancaster Avenue in Boyle Heights early morning on October 28, 2013. Police say a pedestrian was crossing the street at the intersection of Santa Monica Boulevard and Normandie Avenue early morning on October 25, 2013 when he was struck. A witness said the driver fled the scene, but was involved in a second crash near Santa Monica Boulevard and Edgemont Street, about four blocks from the site of the first crash.

A young mother, her boyfriend and her 2-year-old daughter were killed in a Fontana car crash when a driver rammed into their stopped car near a street intersection. According to a CBS Los Angeles news report, the collision occurred the night of October 21, 2013 near the intersection of Citrus Avenue and Foothill Boulevard. A 35-year-old man suffered major head and neck injuries in a Pasadena motorcycle accident after his motorcycle struck a pole. According to a news report in the San Gabriel Valley Tribune, the major injury collision occurred the night of October 16, 2013 at Del Mar Boulevard and Craig Avenue. Witnesses only said they heard the crash before the motorcyclist was found lying in the street severely injured. He was rushed to a local hospital in serious condition. Pasadena police are investigating the cause of the crash.

Elisa Alvarez, 47, was killed in a hit-and-run accident after a speeding driver struck her and left the scene. According to a KABC news report, the fatal accident occurred in the 300 block of South Oak Street the night of October 18, 2013. Police say Alvarez was leaving a family birthday party when she was struck and killed by a speeding truck. She had just placed her infant cousin into a car seat when she was hit. Alvarez was thrown 30 feet. She was rushed to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead. The baby was unharmed. The hit-and-run vehicle was located near Arbor Vitae and Oak streets.

Paul Michelena, 46, was killed in a San Clemente car accident after a driver who was turning into a parking lot struck him. The Orange County Register reports that Michelena and his daughter were walking on a sidewalk in front of a Ralphs supermarket at South El Camino Real and Avenida Barcelona the afternoon of October 11, 2013 when they were struck by a Ford F150 pickup truck that was turning into the store’s parking lot. Police say the driver said he did not see the pedestrians on the sidewalk. Michelena was pronounced dead at the scene and the girl suffered non-life-threatening injuries. No arrests or citations were reported. The investigation is ongoing.

I offer my deepest condolences to Michelena’s family and friends. My thoughts and prayers are also with his daughter who was injured in this collision.

Two people have been killed and two others were seriously injured after being struck by vehicles in Santa Ana within the past week. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, 68-year-old Petra Perez Jimenez died from injuries sustained on October 11, 2013 when she was struck by a Toyota Camry at the intersection of Grant Street and Standard Avenue. Jimenez was pushing a shopping cart in a marked crosswalk when the northbound vehicle hit her. The driver of the Camry, who was driving without a license, remained at the scene. No charges have been filed yet.

A driver identified as 57-year-old Adrian Davis was killed and several others were injured in a Fullerton crash that involved eight vehicles. According to a CBS Los Angeles news report, the fatal crash occurred the afternoon of October 10, 2013 near the intersection of Harbor Boulevard and Valencia Mesa Drive. Police say Davis, who was driving a yellow Ford F-150 pickup truck, was traveling in the wrong direction when he swerved into lanes on Harbor and struck several vehicles that were stopped at a signal. Davis died from his injuries. Five others were injured, but the nature and extent of their injuries is not known.
