Tzu Tseng Wang, 89, is in critical condition after being injured in an Orange County car accident the morning of October 28, 2010. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, the major injury pedestrian accident occurred at the intersection of Orangewood Avenue and Los Alamitos Boulevard in Los Alamitos. Authorities say Wang was using the crosswalk when a Honda Civic struck him. Wang suffered multiple injuries to his head, legs and hip. It is not clear if the 60-year-old driver will be cited for the accident. An investigation is ongoing.

According to California Highway Patrol’s 2008 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), there were no fatalities, but two injuries reported as a result of Los Alamitos pedestrian accidents. According to California Vehicle Code Section 21950 (a): “The driver of a vehicle shall yield the right-of-way to a pedestrian crossing the roadway within any marked crosswalk or within any unmarked crosswalk at an intersection.” The same section also states that the driver of a vehicle approaching a pedestrian within any marked or unmarked crosswalk “shall exercise all due care and shall reduce the speed of a vehicle or take any other action relating to the operating of the vehicle as necessary to safeguard the safety of the pedestrian.”
