A 61-year-old woman was killed in a Long Beach pedestrian accident when she was struck by a vehicle that went out of control after colliding with another vehicle the afternoon of Oct. 30. According to a news report in the Long Beach Press-Telegram, the initial collision between the two vehicles occurred at the intersection of Cherry Avenue and 7th Street. The woman died at the scene. Both drivers remained at the scene and cooperated with the police.
Ongoing Investigation
Based on initial investigations, police believe the two vehicles collided at the intersection causing one vehicle to lose control, jump the curb and strike the pedestrian who was on the sidewalk. The woman was sitting on a bus bench when the collision occurred. There was no evidence that either driver was distracted or intoxicated, police said. No arrests were made or citations, issued. The investigation into this fatal pedestrian accident is ongoing.
We offer our deepest condolences to the family members and friends of this deceased pedestrian accident victim for their tragic and heartbreaking loss. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers.
Causes and Compensation Issues
Based on this news report, officials have said that neither one of the drivers was impaired or distracted at the time of the initial collision that triggered the pedestrian accident. So, there are a number of unanswered questions here. What caused the initial crash to occur at the intersection? Did one of the drivers fail to yield the right of way to the other? Did one driver run a red light at the intersection, which is monitored by traffic lights? Was one of the drivers speeding at the time of the collision? We trust officials are looking into these and other issues in order to determine precisely what occurred and who was at fault here.
In such cases where negligence or wrongdoing is involved, families of deceased victims can file a wrongful death lawsuit seeking compensation for damages such as medical expenses, funeral costs, lost future income, pain and suffering and loss of love, care and companionship. An experienced Long Beach pedestrian accident lawyer will be able to advise victims’ families regarding their legal rights and options.
