Four people were injured in a Riverside car accident the afternoon of January 23, 2010 after a head-on collision. The North County Times reports that the injury collision occurred at the intersection of Via Volcano and Tenaja Road in Temecula. California Highway Patrol officials say that a Camaro going north on Via Volcano at a high rate of speed crossed over into opposing lanes of traffic and collided with an SUV. Officials said another car was also involved in this collision.
The Camaro’s driver suffered neck injuries and two broken legs. Two passengers in the Camaro, aged 9 and 17, sustained minor injuries. The driver of the SUV also suffered a broken leg. No details were available about the occupants of the third car. All injured victims were transported to a local hospital. Officials do not believe drugs or alcohol were a factor.
My heart goes out to the injured victims in this car accident especially the driver of the SUV and the two children. I wish them the very best for a speedy and complete recovery.
Car Accident Statistics
According to California Highway Patrol’s 2007 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), there were seven fatalities and 420 injuries involving car accidents in Temecula, California. In Riverside County as a whole, car accidents claimed 279 lives and caused 9,925 injuries during the same year.
Fault and Liability Issues
If the details of this news report are accurate, the driver of the Camaro may be at fault for speeding and then losing control of the car in this injury collision. He apparently left his traffic lane, crossed over the centerline and caused the accident. If the driver of the Camaro is determined to have been at-fault, then he or she could be held liable for the injuries and damages caused. I trust officials are also investigating the possibility of distracted or reckless driving here.
In any case where negligence or wrongdoing is involved, injured victims would be well-advised to consult an experienced Riverside personal injury lawyer, who will stay on top of the investigation and ensure that the negligent parties are held accountable. In cases where the at-fault party is uninsured or underinsured, a knowledgeable car accident lawyer should advise victims about how their own car insurance policy applies to the case.
