Two men in business attire were caught on camera in what appeared to be a public brawl in Van Nuys. According to a KABC news report and video, the two men had just gotten off the 405 Freeway at Burbank Boulevard when all of a sudden, one of the men, apparently a lawyer, decided to take the law into his own hands. The lawyer, identified as Randalf Kincaid, got out of his car first and hit the driver of a BMW. The video then shows Kincaid turning back to get into his own car and leave the scene. At the time, the other driver, now bloodied from the hit he took, jumped on him, brought him to the ground and held him until authorities arrived.

Other rush hour commuters got out of their cars to help. Kincaid was arrested and charged with battery. ABC News reports that Kincaid is an active member of the State Bar of California and has had no prior record of discipline in his 26 years as an attorney. The other driver, who has not been identified, told reporters he still does not know what he did to anger Kincaid, but that Kincaid repeatedly told him, “You could have killed me.”
This is indeed an intriguing road rage incident. I trust officials are looking into what spurred Kincaid to take such drastic action against the other driver. However, what happened here was that these two drivers posed a public safety risk by stopping traffic and getting into a street fight. This could have caused other accidents and injuries. Thankfully, no one else was hurt. It is not clear what effect this incident could have on Kincaid’s career.
Road Rage is a Serious Issue
Road rage, which is the act of getting angry and driving aggressively, is a serious issue in the United States. Drivers who “rage” can put both themselves and others in danger and can end up causing serious accidents. According to Reuters Road Rage Survey, the states with the most road rage instances include New York, New Jersey and California. The states that have the fewest incidents of road rage are Wisconsin and Idaho.
The Reuters study also found that 84 percent of drivers surveyed said they got aggravated when they saw another driver talking on the cell phone. About 50 percent of those surveyed said they were annoyed by drivers who cut them off. The bottom line is, there is really no good reason to let your temper get the better of you. Road rage is dangerous and simply not worth it. The next time a driver cuts you off or annoys you, take a deep breath – and drive on.
