New surveillance video shows a truck striking and critically injuring 33-year-old Lisette Medrano in Bell Gardens and taking off without stopping, leaving her lying in the roadway.
According to a KABC news report, the victim’s family has said she is fighting for her life in the hospital. They said she suffered intestinal damage, broken legs and ribs, and is in her sixth surgery after the crash.
Hit-and-Run Collision
The Bell Gardens Police Department is seeking the public’s help to identify the vehicle and the hit-and-run driver. The incident occurred on April 9 when Medrano left a friend’s home on Eastern Avenue. Police say Medrano walked from the sidewalk to the driver’s side of her parked car.
As she tried to open a door, a white pickup truck crashed into her, sideswiped her car, and hit a second, parked car. Police say that after the collision, the suspect’s brake lights are seen briefly illuminated, indicating that the driver knew a collision occurred, but made no attempt to stop to help the victim or call 911.
Police officers who were patrolling the area said they found Medrano lying on the roadway bleeding from her head. She was conscious and transported to the hospital.
