A 46-year-old woman was fatally injured in a pedestrian accident in Winnetka, an incident that officials say involved a hit-and-run driver. According to a KTLA news report, the fatal collision was reported in the area of Roscoe Boulevard, east of Lurline Avenue early morning on Dec. 16.
Ongoing Investigation
LAPD officials said the pedestrian was found lying in the street along the north curb of Roscoe Boulevard with injuries consistent with being struck by a vehicle. The investigation revealed that the female pedestrian was struck while on the roadway. Paramedics from the Los Angeles Fire Department responded to the incident. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver did not stop, wait for the authorities, or render aid to the victim. Detectives are trying to identify a light-colored vehicle (tan or silver color), possibly an older-model Chevy Tahoe, which was seen traveling west on Roscoe Boulevard from Lurline Avenue at the time of the collision. Police are investigating this incident as a felony hit-and-run collision. Anyone with information is asked to call the Valley Traffic Division at 818-644-8116.
We offer our deepest condolences to the family of the woman who was killed in this hit-and-run pedestrian accident. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers.
Justice and Compensation
California Vehicle Code Section 20001 (a) requires motorists involved in an injury or fatal crash to stop and remain at the scene. Under the law, drivers are also required to exchange information with other parties involved, and most importantly render aid to the injured victims. This could be something as simple as calling 911 so the injured victim received prompt medical attention, which in most of these cases, is key to the victim’s survival.
Families of deceased hit-and-run victims would be well advised to contact an experienced Los Angeles hit and run lawyer who will stay on top of the official investigation and help ensure that their legal rights and best interests are protected. Families who lose loved ones are often faced not only with the emotional trauma that comes from losing a family member, but also financial burdens such as loss of income and funeral and burial costs.
A knowledgeable car accident lawyer can also advise families about how their own auto insurance policy might help cover their losses when a driver hasn’t been identified or when an at-fault motorist is uninsured or underinsured.
