A 72-year-old man who was driving the wrong way on the 241 Toll Road in Orange caused a multi-car crash that led to his death and injured three others. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, the incident occurred on the night of Aug. 6. The man was driving a Toyota Camry north in the southbound lanes near East Santiago Canyon Road when it struck a Ford F-150 pickup truck who tried to get out of the car’s way, California Highway Patrol officials said. The truck then struck a Chevy Camaro.
Fatality and Injuries
The wrong-way driver was pronounced dead at the scene. The 19-year-old man driving the pickup truck suffered major injuries and transported to an area hospital. Two passengers in the truck, an 18-year-old man and 19-year-old woman, were also injured and hospitalized. The driver and passenger of the Camaro were uninjured. Investigators have not ruled out drugs and alcohol as factors in this crash, CHP said.
